Introduction
Through academic, journalistic and literary texts and audio pieces I research the perception, description and mediation of sonic materiality, its philosophical, aesthetic, cultural and (psycho)acoustic significance and conditions. Furthermore, I am interested in the transformative potentials of the arts and in art activism.

Reinhard Gupfingers sound sculptures, "Sound Shifting", present a hybrid sound art and reveal a sonic materialism. It rarely slips into conscious perception; it often remains unheard or even inaudible. In everyday life, we sometimes encounter it as a powerful noise, in pop music as a wall of sound or noise. Persistently, artists worldwide are opposing social and political injustice and nationalist backsliding. But equally persistent are the anti-liberal and traditionalist forces who assert their power, which is apparent not only symbolically but long since structurally. In this climate, artists are under pressure to express themselves, to take a stanc...

The Haxan Cloaks’ Drone Music evokes an intense physical experience of sonic materiality which goes beyond the vibration through a bass line. The body resonates differentiating in-depth. Listeners speak of cathartic feelings through that music, a voluntary self-abandonment, and sense new ways of expression. But others experience a horrifying absorp...
