The role of supporting organizations is subject to controversy. Although many studies have reported positive effects, the significance of these organizations still remains diluted among different explanatory factors. This paper uses social network analysis techniques to investigate the extent to which supporting organizations really act as intermed...
Firms aspire to take advantage of technical and business networks through inter-organizational interactions to improve performance. Consequently, researchers are increasingly focusing on the dynamics and implications of network formation at both local and global levels. The recent research trend does not consider a monotonic effect and simplistic a...
This paper investigates whether and to what extent individual firms improve their innovation from behaving as brokers connecting other actors in the Spanish ceramic tile cluster. The effects of the brokerage roles are analysed for different innovation levels by means of quantile regressions. Finally, we speculate about the indirect and interactive...
This article explores to what extent the internal attributes of a clustered firm influence its capacity to adopt disruptive innovations. A multidimensional approach to the absorptive capacity (ACAP) model is used to distinguish between potential (acquisition and assimilation domains) and realized (transformation and exploitation domains) internal f...
The aim of this paper is to adopt the absorptive capacity (ACAP) framework to understand radical innovation in industrial districts (IDs), adopting a multi-level perspective. By performing a longitudinal case study on an ID that has successfully introduced a radical innovation – the plastic ski boot innovation developed within the Montebelluna Spor...
Geographical indications are instruments that enhance the value of traditional products associated with a territory, ensuring their protection and recognition in the markets. However, not all countries promote their products and heritages in the same way. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate the scientific production of Ge...
This chapter examines the significance of circular economy (CE) in the context of the tourism industry in Castellón, Spain. Tourism plays a vital role in the country’s economy, contributing a substantial share to the GDP and generating employment opportunities. However, the environmental impact of tourism, including waste management and pollution,...
While there is evidence of the positive influence of trust in cooperation development, in situations where trust is unfeasible, trust-linked elements are needed. In this investigation, trust-linked elements are considered to be contracts, supporting institutions (SIs), and reciprocity. This research aims to determine the role of trust and/or trust-...
Firms are increasingly pressured to introduce green innovations. The literature suggests that – given their high complexity – collaborating with external stakeholders is a key ingredient in the effective development of green innovations (GI), even more so than for ‘traditional’ types of innovation. While there is evidence that firms engage with mor...

In a new scenario in which globalization has produced a change in the economic contexts of industrial clusters, typically formed by SMEs, the aim of this article is to clarify the role played by universities in the transmission of information and knowledge. In order to do so, we will focus on one of the clusters most affected by the effect of globa...
The objective of this research is to investigate the combinations of internal and external factors that lead cluster companies to innovate. The study follows a complex causality approach using Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) with a sample of 166 companies that belong to the Spanish ceramic tile cluster, differentiating between end product fi...
This article analyzes the determinants of successful crowdfunding initiatives using a sample of 5,251 projects from the reward-based Spanish platform Verkami. In contrast to most of the literature that has measured success with a dichotomous variable, we approach success with a continuous one, namely the ratio of achievement, which is measured as t...
This paper uncovers the different factors behind the high technological innovation performance of clustered firms. Moreover, we aim to investigate the necessary and sufficient conditions of factors to achieve innovative outcomes of clustered firms. This is done by analyzing the Spanish ceramic tile cluster and using a configurational comparative me...

So far, the relationship between Industrial Districts (IDs; clusters of interconnected local industries) and migrant enclaves (areas with a high concentration of international migrants from a single nationality) has been studied mostly by focusing on the emergence of ‘ethnic enclave economies’ within the district and/or by highlighting racist confl...
Social network analysis has generated a great number of research findings in the organizational and management literature, in which the so-called territorial clusters have often been represented through the network metaphor. However, while scholars primarily examine the network structure and the internal heterogeneity, we have specifically analyzed...
Over the last few decades, many studies have focused on the role that incremental innovations play in cluster contexts. However, few authors have analysed the impact of disruptive innovations on these entities. The present research analyses the emergence, development and dissemination of a disruptive technological innovation in an industrial cluste...

Using the network approach, this paper examines the different patterns of intermediation between otherwise disconnected firms and its impact on innovation performance. Our research...
Currently the Spanish Ceramic Cluster is undergoing a process of adjustment due to the crisis produced in 2008, following the bursting of the housing bubble, which has generated a significant level of failure in their companies. Located on the Spanish province of Castellon is an appropriate framework to undertake studies based on social network ana...

Recently, social network research has provided some important contributions in different economic disciplines and across several levels of analysis (Brass, Galaskiewicz, Greve, and Tsai, 2004; Borgatti and Foster, 2003; Wasserman and Faust, 1994). On the other hand, industrial clusters (Porter, 1990; Becattini, 1990) have also received a great deal...
Clusters have received a great deal of attention in economic literature. The aim of this paper is to find out which type of firms feed these clusters with knowledge and what is the influence of their network capabilities on this matter. Questions are addressed using empirical evidence collected in the specific context of the Spanish ceramic tile cl...
