At present in the north of Colombia country there are many coal opencast mines operating on the Andes mountain feet. The topography in this zone is characterized by important peaks and large valleys and this allow the occurrence of micrometeorological phenomena that influence the air quality of the area. All the coal opencast mines produces approxi...
The spatial and temporal variability of TSP and PM10 were studied during the period from 2012 to 2016 in one of the largest opencast coal mines in the world (El Cerrejón) located in northeastern Colombia. The results showed average concentrations of TSP and PM10 of 86 µgm-3 (CI95% 84-88 µgm-3) and 34 µgm-3 (CI95% 33-35 µgm-3), respectively. It was...
In this study, intake fraction was determined to provide insight into population exposures to PM10 that 11 is effectively inhaled due to emissions of an opencast coal mine. We applied the CALPUFF model to a 12 coal mine in northern Colombia, which has 6 active pits with an annual production of 33.7 Million Ton. 13 An estimated the intake fraction f...
The Cerrejon coal mine in the north of Colombia is one of the largest open pits in South America. The Cerrejon has an air quality monitoring network with over 30 years of records of the levels of particulate material. Between January 2012 and November 2013, the mean daily concentrations of PM10 were registered

Fugitive material has been identified as the main source of air pollution, especially total suspended particulate (TSP) and particulate matter less than 10 micrometers (PM10) in open pit mining. The aim of this research was to estimate the concentration of PM10 and measure the impact of coal piles on nearby populations. The sources under considerat...
The contributions of PM10 to the environment were determined in a mining industrial zone in northern Colombia for activities involved in storing 3.2 Mton of coal. As the main modeling tool the software CALPUFF was used to determine the contribution of PM10 for 10 days modeling during a month period. Ambient concentrations of PM10 in five receivers...
Water quality in tributaries points of the river Cesar such as the Calenturitas river, Maracas river and Tucuy river and using aquatic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators and applying the biotic index BMWP/Col (Biological Monitoring Working Party score) adapted to Colombia by Roldan has been assessed. Five sampling stations were established, conduc...
In the coal mining zone in the department of Cesar (Colombia), the programs MM5, CALMET and CALPUFF were used to simulate the PM10 contribution of the mining projects PLJ, Norcarbón and the Hatillo; with the objective of compare the results of the dispersion model CALPUFF with the registers of monitoring of the zone and evaluate this dispersion mod...

The concentrations of total suspended particles (TSP) and particles with size below 10 and 2.5 micrometers (PM10 and PM2.5) in the urban area of the city of Riohacha in Colombia were determined. The instruments used were a high-volume sampler for TSP and PM10 and a low-volume sampler (Partisol) for PM2.5, all in six monitoring stations. The results...
This article presents a literature review about the quantification and characterization of total suspended particles (TSP) and inhalable particulate matter (PM 10) generated in open pit coal mining areas. Particle matter is a complex pollutant due to its physical characteristics (particle size distribution, morphology and density) and its chemical...

To determine the contribution and chemical composition of marine aerosols in the PM10 and PM2.5 particulate matter in outdoor and indoor of the urban area of the city of Riohacha, Colombia.
To determine the contribution of the ocean to the organic and inorganic elements present in the chemical composition of the PM10 and PM2.5 particulate material measured in outdoor and indoor of the urban area of the city of Riohacha.
