Project
Study of human remains by Era Arqueologia´s bioarchaeology team
Project
The project is focused in the ditched enclosure of Santa Vitória (a classified site and run by DRCA), located in Campo Maior, Portalegre district. It aims to contrast the social dynamics and temporalities of a small enclosure with the ones shown by the large and complex ditched enclosure of Perdigões. The goal is to build a comparative frame for the social process that is being observed at Perdigões. How two apparently different biographies are sharing a same general social trajectory, but expressing it in different ways. In this sense, the project will be in strait connection with the Perdigões Global Program of Research. The specif goals are: - to obtain the global design of the enclosures through geophysics; - to build a chronology and characterize the temporalities and rhythms of the site; - characterize the social practices that took place within the enclosure and the processes of filling of the negative structures; - mesure the levels of social interaction through exogenous mateials and mobility patterns; - characterize the material culture; - contextualize the site in its settlement network at a local scale; - evaluate the conservation state of the site and define a plan of protection and public display Propject core institutions: Era Arqueologia / Direcção Regional de Cultura do Alentejo / Município de Campo Maior Core team: António Carlos Neves de Valera (Investigador Responsável) – Arqueólogo, Doutorado - Era Arqueologia / ICArEHB, Universidade do Algarve.
