However, the current state of the art on the main determinants affecting technology-based products' commercialization is characterized by the lack of an integrative framework, an...
We study how sourcing of applied and basic knowledge is related to the likelihood and speed at which inventions become innovations as well as their profitability. By using a patent database with unique commercialization information, we reveal that inventions strongly based on applied knowledge lead to innovations more quickly, while inventions embe...
Smart city transitions are a fast-proliferating example of urban innovation processes, and generating the insight required to support their unfolding should be a key priority for innovation scholars. However, after decades of research, governance mechanisms remain among the most undertheorized and relatively overlooked dimensions of smart city tran...
Family firm research agrees that family involvement in ownership gives rise to idiosyncratic innovation behaviors. However, whether family ownership fosters or hampers innovation is still debated because the distinction among the types of innovation outcomes has been often overlooked. I am studying the inclination of companies to associate a new trademark (TM) with the commercialization of radical innovations.
Do you know examples of companies that decided to apply (or not apply) for a TM to commercialize a radical innovation (eg., a new product)?
I am asking this because, on the one hand, firms may improve appropriability over the radical product thanks to the TM. But, on the other hand, a firm may have an existing TM, so choosing to use it to commercialize the product since that brand is already known among customers while the product is distant from their existing values. What do you think about?
Dear all,
The recent literature has stressed on the relevant role that technology acquisition is of foremost importance to sustain internal innovation activities, which is in line with the open innovation paradigm. In detail, I refer to firms that buy external technologies.
However, I was wondering if and why companies are engaged in continuous technology acquisition. In other words, many companies have acquired at least one external solution. But, to what extent they continue to rely on technology acquisition after they have tried it for the first time? Do you have statistics saying something like "firms tend to acquire only one (or few) technology" or, conversely, "firms usually tend to continue to acquire technologies after that they have acquired the first one"?
Dear all,
I measured a variable that takes values between 0 and 0.1 (with a minimum of 0.00053). This variable will be used in a regression analysis, but it has values of skewness and kurtosis of 3.8 and 14.3, respectively, hence requiring a transformation in order to reduce those values.
I first thought about a log transformation. However, in this way, the resulting values of the variable will be negative, and I would avoid this. Another option is multiplying all values for 1,000 and then use a log transformation. But, how can I justify this choice to referees?
Have you ever experienced this problem? How have you solved it?
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Let's suppose that I want to regress A over B and B over C using SEM. Is it possible to also add the variable A square to see whether A has a curvilinear effect on B?
Thank you
Some studies argue (e.g., Connelly et al. 2010; Nadkarni & Chen 2014; Penner-Hahn & Shaver 2005) that to test the interaction hypotheses in random-effects negative binomial regression, they splitted the sample by observation. Specifically, they examined the marginal effect of the moderated variable on the dependent variable in two subsamples, testing whether the effect was higher (lower) when the moderator was above (below) the mean.
Do you know hot to calculate the marginal effects? Could you provide a short example?
Thank you.

I run a random-effects negative binomial regression. Using estimates of the regression, I would like to plot the effect of my independent variable (GeoDispersion) on my dependent variable (Acquired), hence confirming the hypothesis of an inverted U-shaped effect. How can I do that? Please find enclosed tables of descriptive statistics and results of the regression model.
Thank you in advance for your availability.
I am attempting to measure if a company introduces a product based on its own inventions using trademark data. In other words, I aim to assess if a firm that has patented technologies in the green energy field has also introduced products embedding them, as represented by its trademarks registered after the application of its patents.
What do you think about? Do you have examples of this kind of firm behavior?
