Lluís Ferrer is a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology at McGill University (Canada). Lluís does research on how discourses and practices of environmental conservation are transforming pastoralism, mountain pastures, and farmers' livelihoods in the Ariège Pyrenees (France). The French and Spanish Central Pyrenees have undergone herding transformations since the brown bear reintroduction program took place in 1996. This presentation will focus on the implementation of a set of prevention measures using shepherds, protection dogs, and electrified fences to prevent bear attacks.
