Conference Paper
Eco Solar Transformer Architecture is an innovative smart building solution that crosses mutable forms of artistic expression with forms of technological content. This architectural concept results from the combination of Philosophy + Art + Technology, specially designed for small and medium skyscrapers, can also be applied to existing buildings re...
Conference Paper
This research is based on a previous critical observation, in face of an environmental problem that involves numerous quarries and debris of the marble basin in the anticlinal of Estremoz, Borba and Vila Viçosa, located in Portugal, where there is a huge waste of this raw material. Of the extracted marble stone, only 5% to 25% is used and marketed....

Conference Paper
Within disciplinary areas or architecture, urban-design and human geography, the work aims at grasping spatial characterisation and contextualisation of open public spaces in Riverside Lisbon. It approaches natural advantages as outputs of specific relation between built and natural environment. It focuses open public space in relation to place, la...
Thesis
In the nowadays tightly built environment we recognize the unbuilt part of urban-architectural space as its gradient and structural element, which influences its formal and functional qualities. Based on the references of urbanism, architecture and human geography and in order to analyse Open Public Spaces through the prism of its unbuilt part, the...
Conference Paper
As a phenomenon which includes cumulative experience during certain period of time, the apprehension of architecture and urban space resembles experience of music. The melodic and harmonic perception of either musical or urban-architectural pieces implies linear succession of discrete sensations whose organisation produces quality of piece as a who...

Full-text available
Urban environments are defined and modeled in a variety of ways depending on the scientific approach to analyze them. Even though a number of analysis could benefit from using a single model and re-using results of one for the sake of the other, so far no single data model is available. Moreover, the existing stan- dardized models focus on describi...
Article
The paper discusses a set of spatial attributes referring to urban places and design, principally focusing on the urban riverfronts and their expressions of perceived quality and spatial identity. River landscapes, riverfronts and designed urban places along the river banks are among the most visible, strong and prominent features of the river citi...
Chapter
Urban planning and design are increasingly often supported by analytical models of urban space. We present a method of representation for analysis and classification of open urban spaces based on physical measures including three-dimensional data to overcome some observed limitations of two-dimensional methods. Beginning with “convex voids” constru...
Article
Within the field of architectural and urban research, this work addresses the complexity of contemporary public space, both in a conceptual and concrete sense. It aims at systematizing spatial attributes and their categories and discussing spatial complexity and measurability, all this in order to reach a more comprehensive understanding, descripti...

Project
The Design Computation Summer School 2018 is an initiative of the Design and Computation Group (DCG) of Faculdade de Arquitetura, University of Lisbon. It will be a space for discussing new ideas and new applications of advanced concepts in architecture and urbanism by exploring the given tools and methods. The main idea of this set of workshops is to share advanced knowledge on the related subjects and get feedback from the participants. We expect to grow our network of highly specialized researchers and expand the use of our methods and tools by providing a hands-on experience. The workshops are also a response to frequent contacts we had for sharing our tools. As most tools are still under development we thought that sharing in a structured workshop format would not just provide the knowledge but also could allow contributions and eventual future collaborations with the participants. We are therefore both sharing and networking. More information at: http://dcgsummerschool2018.fa.ulisboa.pt
