Introduction
I am currently working on quantifying microplastics from fishes (marine and estuarine) as well as from semi-processed market-sourced products (dried fish, fermented sprats/anchovies, bottled bivalves and sea urchin roe) in Central Visayas, the Philippines.
I have also worked on the ecology (microhabitat usage) of the arboreal frogs of Negros Island.

Molluscs are one of the dominant taxa inhabiting Caulerpa communities, serving as an important link to the food web. These organisms utilize Caulerpa communities as their feeding ground, shelter, breeding habitat and serve as their protection from predators. This paper surveyed the abundance and diversity of molluscs found in the Caulerpa beds of S...
This study provides a more updated and comprehensive assessment on the species richness and abundance of bat species inhabiting caves in three provinces (Siquijor, Negros Oriental, and Bohol) in Central Visayas, Philippines. The said study started gathering data from February 14 to September 20, 2019. The research team surveyed 55 caves in these pr...
Hipposideros lekaguli is one of the most distinctive bats in the Philippines, with a large foliated
noseleaf, the posterior portion of which is distinctly trilobed and inflated into deep pockets (Fig. 1). There are
three leaflets lateral to the anterior noseleaf (Thonglongya & Hill, 1974; images in Heaney et al., 2010). The
median ridge is high and...
We reviewed the status of the Mottled Rabbitfish (Siganus fuscescens
Houttuyn, 1782) as a major fishery product in Negros Oriental, including threats from microplastic pollution and overfishing. This species is often marketed as either fresh or dried “danggit”. Out of a total of 300 fish samples from four areas in Negros Oriental province, 91 (30%)...
This book describes the bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) observed in the caves of the three KBAs (ket Biodiversity Areas) in Central Visayas, Philippines.
The Philippines is currently ranked as the third top producer of plastic wastes, yet little research has been conducted on marine plastic pollution in this fishery-dependent, developing country. This study is the first in the nation to quantify and characterize microplastics ingested by a commercially important fish, the rabbitfish (Siganus fuscesc...
Describes records of the Green House Frog in Dumaguete City, southern Negros Island, Philippines
This study aimed to: 1) identify fish species found in Bayawan River; 2) determine fish abundance and species composition in three segments of the river; 3) characterize physico-chemical and hydrological parameters of the river; and 4) correlate fish abundance and diversity with the physico-chemical and hydrological characteristics of Bayawan River...
Different habitat structures occupies different composition of anurans species which can be useful in determining their specific habitat requirements and preferences. The study assessed anurans species composition and diversity along an elevational gradient of Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, Negros Oriental, Philippines. A line transect (1km)...
Introduction:
Forest frogs that undergo direct development (no tadpole stage) rely heavily on moist microhabitats for their survival. Objective: To describe the abundance and microhabitat use and some aspects of the breeding behaviour of the threatened forest frog Platymantis hazelae at Twin Lakes Balinsasayao Natural Park, Negros Island, Philippin...
We describe the abundance and microhabitat use and some aspects of the breeding behaviour of the threatened forest frog Platymantis hazelae at Twin Lakes Balinsasayao Natural Park, Negros Island, Philippines. Fourteen environmental variables were measured and subjected to multivariate principal component analysis (PCA). PCA revealed that rainfall,...
