In recent decades, a change of paradigm in flood risk management (FRM) has been taking place worldwide. The most current legislation and policies reflect this. This change of paradigm implies a gradual transition towards the adoption of more proactive, integrating strategies which require investment in nature-based solutions (NbS) to mitigate flood...

This paper explores the phenomenon of international servicification of manufacturing from the period 1995 to 2011. By applying empirical techniques of Social Network Analysis and graph theory, we find that the network of flows of intermediate services embodied in manufacturing exports is still slightly dense and would not correspond to a traditiona...

Environmental managers are increasingly aware of the importance of involving different stakeholders to develop flood risk management policies and to design effective communication strategies. In order to involve the stakeholders in these processes is required first a broad understanding of: (1) how they perceive flood risks; (2) what kind of intere...

This paper aims to provide empirical evidence for the connections between new trade theory and the spatial distribution of economic activities, considering the results obtained by the literature on New Economic Geography as a starting point. To do this, we apply Social Network Analysis specifically to the World Automotive Trade Network. We explore...

This paper presents an empirical analysis of residential electricity demand considering the existence of spatial effects. This analysis has been performed using aggregate panel data at the province level for 46 Spanish provinces for the period from 2001 to 2010. For this purpose, we estimated a log–log demand equation using a spatial autoregressive...
Article
The aim of this paper is to analyse the changes that have taken place in European production networks since the mid-nineties, when, simultaneously, a new impetus to the EU process and its enlargement occurred. Due to its characteristics, the automotive industry is particularly suitable for our analysis. Descriptive analysis suggests that advances i...

The aim of this paper is to analyse the participation of Spain in International Production Networks using parts and components trade data from 1990 to 2009. We are particularly interested in understanding the potential contribution of factor endowment differences in networking and the impact of belonging to a common geographical and trading area su...

This paper presents an empirical analysis on the residential demand for electricity. This analysis has been performed using aggregate panel data at the province level for 47 Spanish provinces for the period from 2000 to 2008. For this purpose, we estimated a log-log demand equation for electricity consumption using a dynamic partial adjustment appr...
Article
The principal aim of this study is to evaluate the regulation of electricity distribution in Spain. To this end, we begin by analyzing whether the changes introduced by the regulator led distribution companies to improve their efficiency; we then address whether the reimbursements paid to the distribution companies are linked to efficiency; lastly,...

This paper assesses the restructuring of the Spanish electric power sector by analysing the performance of electric companies. To this end, we jointly analyse the creation and decomposition of the economic value generated by them before and after the reform, and its distribution among firms' stakeholders. Our results show that after the reform (i)...

The Marco Legal Estable provides us with a rare opportunity to study a system of multi-output reimbursements applied to the distribution of electricity in Spain over an extensive period of time: 1988–1997. To do so, an analysis structure is proposed based on a Bennet-type indicator (1920), which allows us to identify the variations in the revenues...

The aim of this paper is to advance knowledge of Spanish participation in international production networks using data on trade in parts and components from 1990 to 2007. We estimate the factors that influence this type of trade using an extended gravity panel data model. In addition to the standard variables in gravity models, we examine the role...

Project
The purpose of this project is to provide methodological and applied research to improve our knowledge about the foundations and drivers of sustainable social-economic progress. As such, the proposal is inspired by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, and specifically by the Sustainable Development Goal 8. As highlighted in SDG8, sustainable social-economic progress largely depends on economic productivity growth, entrepreneurship and innovation, improving resource efficiency in consumption and production, and promoting decent and safe work for all.
