Introduction
Writer and independent researcher developing an original methodology to analyse story structure (sjuzhet) using George Spencer-Brown's Calculus of Indications (CoI) in 'Laws of Form'.
I've previously shown how the CoI can make working with classical (perennial) logic easier, faster, and more intuitive.
I have an academic and practitioner's interest in historic needlework - esp. English 16th & 17th C embroidery.
My MA thesis on 16th & 17th C English Woven and Embroidered Textile Bookbindings examines >200 examples from a range of classes. The previous study, in 1899, looked at c. 50 examples drawn solely from royal and court circles.
I reconstructed the method of working an Elizabethan embroidery stitch known as 'Plaited Braid Stitch', knowledge of which had been lost for 400 years.

In this Lecture on the integrated and integrative qualities of the Liberal Arts, I offer up a non-linear way of looking at the Liberal Arts, exploring the links between the word-based Trivium and the number-based Quadrivium in novel ways. This article seeks to outline a link between true journalism and the 'jus naturale' which underlies the notion of human rights. It argues that the link between them sustains and is sustained by the role that true journalists play in society, within the boundaries of a free press, regulated by independent bodies which uphold agreed standards. The ar...
An exploration of the proposition that there is no distinction between story and life.
Imagine you’re in a room, looking at a colourful grid of many different shapes spread out on a wall. There’s something intriguing about it – something almost magical. There are triangles, circles, squares, stars. Each has something on it – a word or diagram. There’s one shape of each colour … placed in a strange formation … what could the underlyin...

Purpose
– The traditional liberal-arts curriculum of the word-based Trivium (grammar, dialectic/logic, rhetoric) and the number-based Quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music) has an intrinsic unity. Used in an integrated way, it provides a tool for self-development, self-realisation and self-integration. The purpose of this paper is to o...
How do words reflect meaning? How can a forgotten classification of words help us reconnect to that meaning - and to a meaningful existence? And what does a marimba have to do with it?
