Loss of quality and limits on the storage life of potatoes are very difficult problems for farmers around the world. Farmers normally apply chemicals to minimize the number of aerobic colonies and increase the storage life of potato tubers for year-round supply. However, these methods pose harmful health risks to consumers. This research study eval...

The effects of low energy X-ray irradiation on microbial inactivation, sprouting inhibition and genetic variation were surveyed. There was an inverse correlation between the exposure dose in range of 0 Gy–5000 Gy and the survival rate of microorganisms. The dose of 1000 Gy seemed to be suitable for inactivation of microorganisms because the respect...

Potato is one of popular agricultural products grown and used in the world with high effective economic and nutritional value. In potatoes, there are always have some harmful bacteria species due to the sources of exposure from the seed, soil as well as the post-harvest environment which make deceasing the quality and quantity of potatoes. Usually,...

Micropropagation has proven to be an effective method for large-scale plant production in a short time and a useful tool for plant breeding. Microbial contamination is one of the most difficult micropropagation challenges, resulting in reduced plant quality and loss of valuable stocks. Therefore, sterilization of culture media is a critical step in...

Question
Dear Everybody,
I'm reading the book titled "Genetic Diversity Analysis with Molecular Marker Data: Learning Module", part of "Measures of genetic diversity" It's very interesting for me. However, when reading about the example of AMOVA, and the Appendix 2 (page 147), I could not understand how to calculate the sum of squares for effect b (individuals).
In Appendix 2, SSb = ∑∑Xi… k2 – ∑…k2/ij but please explain that how to calculate ∑…k2 from binary data in the table (page 102). Thank you so much.
