A building system, promising cost‐efficient residential buildings, is under development. The system uses cold‐formed steel as load‐bearing member and encases it in polystyrene aggregate concrete, a special ultra‐lightweight concrete, which plays building construction roles, and provides increment of load‐bearing capacity, too. Previous research was...
By the wider spread of sandwich panels as a cladding system on industrial steel buildings, the research on various design aspects is evolving as well. The principal aim of the research introduced in this paper is to study the rotational restraint provided by sandwich panels at both ambient and elevated temperatures, and derive the temperature depen...
The 130 years old Eiffel-hall in Budapest is a single-story historical steel building which function was a workshop for locomotives till 2009. The hall with a 95×235 m floor area is built up from 20 truss frames having 5 modules for each. In 2016 the change of the function of the hall was requested, and the workshop and rehearsal centrum of the Hun...
Both industry and architects are interested in increasingly wide spanned and slender structures, raising the demand in high yield stress resistance of steel structures to save weight and finally costs. Several manufactures are able to provide steel grades even higher than S1100, but the rapid development of the production outpaced the present desig...
A 3D finite element (FE) model of bolted end-plate beam-to-column steel connection was built with Ansys to predict the distribution of temperature field in the unprotected connection subjected to fire. The results were compared to available experimental data and to the method presented in the current Eurocode. On the basis of this thermal analysis...
The paper is on a new generation of natural draught steel cooling tower structure which is developed for dry cooling system power plants. The advantages of this system and the related steel tower are discussed. The developed structure represents the third generation of the steel cooling towers; the details and applications of the previous generatio...
The prediction of damages under cyclic loading is one of the ongoing research activities in the field of steel structures. Investigations carried out at the BTU Cottbus had to clarify, wether the stress analysis on the basis of thermovision is suitable for this task. Three cyclically loaded members (perforated tension bar, necked girder, plate gird...
