This paper aims to solve one of the energy issues using specific new building designs using the building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) panels as a double skin envelope. The BIPV system can be an innovative material for the building envelope during the design process as a: frame component, curtain wall or shading device. In addition to its power ge...
This study investigates the thermal performance of the ventilated mask wall used in the low-income neo-vernacular dwellings designed by André Ravéreau to cope with the warm desert climate conditions of M'zab Valley, Ghardaia, in southern Algeria. This device is a ventilated façade provided with an opaque external massive cladding. It is designed to...
In hot dry climates, employing passive cooling roofs systems can provide cooling needs with less amount of electrical energy. Furthermore, when focusing on living spaces in terms of indoor thermal comfort and energy performance issues, occupant’s interaction with the building should not be underestimated. Recent studies with occupant-based focus ha...
In recent years, energy conservation issues, environmental problems and their consequences on public health have increased interest in climatic responsive design to achieve better thermal comfort conditions inside the building without enhancing energy consumption. As people spend most of their time in interior spaces, indoor thermal conditions sign...
Daylight is an important factor that significantly contributes to patients’ healing, with a reduction in the length of stay in the hospital. It can strongly affect energy consumption negatively or positively through lighting control strategies. Therefore, the case of healthcare buildings is very particular and sensitive, especially under extreme cl...
This article examines the indicators of residents' needs for thermal comfort in public spaces. Our hypothesis focuses on the extent to which high temperatures are associated with the use of public spaces by different age groups of the population. The public squares that distinguish the urban areas of the case study were selected based on their impo...
The vegetation constitutes a crucial element, which influences on several levels such as the aspect the esthetics and the attractiveness of the spaces, the indoor and outdoor thermal comfort as well as the psychological aspect of users. Green spaces are considered places of relaxation and leisure, which represent the lungs of the city by creating a...
A couple of decades now, online learning has gained some popularity among scholars to work across borders and use time efficiently. However, the advent of world pandemic that resulted in a big health crisis has spurred more interest to keep going with the online classes close the gap between students and their teachers. We present here a profession...
The rationalization of energy consumption has become a topical issue; it continues to capture the attention of researchers in all fields, including the field of construction. Ensuring the thermal comfort of construction users with passive solutions while minimizing energy consumption and negative effects on the environment is considered a great cha...
The mastering of the thermal ambient in buildings across the facade while minimizing the energy consumption is considered a challenge for designers. Nowadays, this challenge has become more difficult to meet especially with the current climatic and economic conditions that have made energy performance a global requirement in all areas, particularly...
This paper aims to evaluate the indoor thermal comfort in the courtyard building with a double skin facade (DSF) in a hot and arid region. In many previous research, it has been demonstrated the importance of the use of courtyard to enhance the thermal environment, especially in the adjacent spaces to courtyard, but it has also demonstrated the wea...
The facade of a building is a decisive factor in the thermal and energy performance of buildings. Its surfaces are considered as zones of heat transfer between the inside and the outside. Surface properties, especially color and texture; which have an important role on solar absorption and thermal emittance of the facade and subsequently the therma...

In order to improve thermal comfort conditions of tertiary buildings through the facades of buildings, a research has been undertaken with the intention of developing a contextually appropriate and energetically efficient facade under the conditions of a hot and arid climate. The study has taken as its starting point the analysis of comfort conditi...
Controlling the thermal environment and reducing the energy consumption of buildings across the façade are a difficult challenge for architects, especially in a desert climate. The windows in particular play an important role in the tandem of the thermal operation of the building and the comfort of the users. The objective of this article is to stu...

The facade of the buildings is considered as a heat transfer zone between the interior and the exterior, where large thermal losses occur through different modes of heat transfer, among which is the convection that influences greatly on the thermal behavior of the facade materials. The aim of this research is to study the thermal effect of the natu...
The research of the mastery of thermal environments through the architectural envelope remains a prime challenge in order to minimize the use of air conditioning and heating. In Algeria, offices are considered an energy-consuming sector, a large quantity of which is used to meet thermal needs. The facade, indeed, represents a place of interaction a...
