Introduction
As a psychologist by training, I am interested in all kinds of social biases: E.g. how are social biases (such as prejudice and stereotyping) contributing to inequalities? Can they be used as a force for good? If so, under which conditions do they transform into charitable outcomes?

Interracial interactions are often laden with concerns about being assimilated by group stereotypes. This study examines the “White-and-prejudiced” stereotype threat, which can be triggered in White customers when interacting with Black frontline employees. Our findings, derived from two field studies and two experiments, reveal short-term positive...

Religious symbols, such as the hijab, are often deemed undesirable or banned in public employment. We test if clients’ perceptions and their performance are influenced by a hijab-wearing public servant, and further test if clients’ reflections on empathy or professionalism about the public servant mitigate potential negative effects. We preregister...

Public sector professions are highly gender-dominant (e.g., police officers, teachers) and determined not only by professional but also by gender roles. According to the role congruity theory, these social roles result in perceived (in)congruities between the jobholders’ gender and gender-dominant professions. This research investigates this inters...

Public employees are stereotyped as lazy, inefficient, and slow. When made aware of such stereotypes, they may experience stereotype threat that impairs their task-performance. Across two pre-registered, large-scale between-subjects experiments (n1 = 1,543; n2 = 1,147), we found that performance in terms of task correctness, processing time, and ef...

We investigate consumer behavior in situations of interracial sales contact and explore how prejudice influences prosocial purchase decisions towards vendors from a racial in- and out-group by applying the theory of overcorrection. In general, out-group interactions are widely associated with negative behavior; however, the opposite can also occur...

Despite burgeoning academic interest in anticonsumption, a lack of definitional clarity and overlapping constructs beleaguer the pertinent literature, preventing research in the field from reaching its full potential. This paper aims to strengthen the foundations for advancing knowledge in this fragmented field by (a) undertaking a thorough systema...

Question
I am looking for a possibility to reduce stress in interracial/ multi ethnic contact/interactions.
E.g. I recently found a study where a “harmless” companion dog served as a "prosocial" cue and made targets seem less threatening.
A cue which reduces negative stereoytpes would be interessting as well.
Anybody knows cues with similar effect?
Cheers,
Katha
Question
Cogn. capacity can be manipulated as follows: high- or low-capacity. In the low-capacity condition, participants’ task is to memorize a nine-digit number within a defined amount of time.
My question is, how can I control whether the low-capacity task had an effect or not? Apart from looking for differences in response behaviour in high- and low-capacity conditions? Maybe somebody knows a short scale or a reference where this topic is covered.
Thanks!
