Thermal infrared (TIR) satellite imagery collected by multispectral scanners is important to map land surface temperature on a global scale. However, the TIR spectral bands are typically available in coarser spatial resolution than other multispectral bands of shorter wavelengths. Therefore, the spatial resolution of the derived land surface temper...

Albedo is an important parameter in many environmental and renewable energy models. Satellite sensors can be used to derive broadband or narrowband albedos. However, the spatial resolution of such data can be insufficient in urban areas with complex morphology and land cover diversity. In this study, we propose the use of widely available aerial or...

Mitigation of urban heat islands requires understanding of the factors affecting the interaction of solar radiation and urban surfaces. In this study, we developed a novel algorithm for high-resolution spatial modeling of land surface temperature by combining the r.sun solar radiation model in GRASS GIS, the Stefan-Boltzmann Law and raster input da...

High-resolution solar radiation modelling requires the three-dimensional geometric structure of the landscape to be respected. Currently, remote sensing methods such as laser scanning and close-range photogrammetry are most commonly used for detailed mapping. The output is detailed 3D models containing buildings, trees, relief and other landscape f...

Current climate changes on a global scale require an optimal estimate of heat transfer in a complex urban environment as a part of the requirements for optimal urban planning in the conditions of a smart city. Urban greenery has a considerable impact on the cooling of the urban environment during thermal waves. Sentinel-2 as an Earth observation mi...

The Smart City concept requires new, fast methods for collection of 3-D data representing features of urban landscape. Laser scanning technology (LiDAR - Light Detection and Ranging) enables such approach producing dense 3-D point clouds of millions of points, which, however, contain noise. Therefore, we developed a new approach allowing for a semi...

The main aim of this paper is to find possible variations in selected building roof points' coordinates resulting from the application of various methods for generating 3D building models on the LOD 2 level, according to OGC consortium classification, in a digital photogrammetric software PHOTOMOD. For this purpose, six buildings from the northeast...
