Introduction
Having focused on microbiology field, I have been researching about viruses for several laboratories from different countries such as Argentina, Spain and Scotland. Producing scientific features for different specialising publications as well as teaching, are essential parts of my profession too. Aiming keep going further in the science field, I am ready to face new challenges.
Specialties: Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
Personal advise: never stop studying and learning.

We describe the burden of influenza B infections in Scotland during a 13-year study period. Influenza A and B viruses cocirculated throughout the period, with numbers of influenza B cases approaching or exceeding those of influenza A during six influenza seasons. Influenza B viruses of both Victoria and Yamagata lineage were detected in two of six...
Until very recently, treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been based on the combination of two non-viral specific drugs: pegylated interferon-α and ribavirin, which is effective in, overall, about 40%-50% of cases. To improve the response to treatment, novel drugs have been designed to specifically block viral proteins. Multi...
INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for laboratories around the world. National and subnational governments faced the urgent need to adapt institutions for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in response to the health emergency declared in 2020. With the aim of increasing diagnostic capacity in the province of Misiones,...
Aflatoxigenic aspergillus isolates from tea (Camellia sinensis ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to isolate and identify, at genera and species level, strains of Aspergillus spp obtained from different stages of black tea traditional processing. Strains taxonomically characterized as Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus were evaluated in...
CRISPR-Cas12a (also called Cpf1) has been commonly used for genomic editing, based on its ability to generate precise double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) breaks. Recently, it was demonstrated that Cas12a exhibits unspecific ssDNAse activity upon target recognition. This feature allows CRISPR-Cas to be coupled with a ssDNA reporter and generate a fast, accu...
Zika virus is a member of the Flaviviridae virus family, similar to other viruses that affect humans, such as hepatitis C and dengue virus. After its first appearance in 1947, Zika virus reappeared in 2016 causing an international public health emergency. Zika virus was considered a non dangerous human pathogen; however, it is currently considered...
Influenza viruses are highly contagious respiratory illness and responsible for the severe annual morbidity and mortality worldwide. They are classified into types, influenza A, B and C. Influenza viruses accumulate point mutations during replication, especially in three proteins: matrix-membrane, hemagglutinin, and neuraminidase. Nucleotide and am...
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) continues to be a major disease on the world. The development of inhibitors that target viral proteins such as NS5A, has the purpose of providing effective treatment to eliminate viruses. New direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have demonstrated a potent antiviral effect; nevertheless, resistance-associated variants (RAVs) have...
In biology, a mutation is a change in the nucleotide sequence of the genome of a microorganisms (e.g., virus, bacteria). Mutations play an important role in biological processes of microorganisms such as drug resistance. Analyzing these mutations becomes a challenge because microorganisms are described by a big amount of data that must be processed...
Introduction
The chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an arbovirus vectored by Aedes mosquitoes that infects humans in tropical and sub-tropical areas of Asia and Africa. Recently, outbreaks have been reported in tropical and sub-tropical areas of countries that were previously unaffected (e.g., Brazil, Colombia). Currently, the following geographical geno...
Background:
Continuous surveillance for genetic changes in circulating influenza viruses is needed to guide influenza prevention and control.
Objectives:
To compare intra-seasonal influenza genetic diversity of hemagglutinin in influenza A strains isolated from influenza hospital admissions collected at two distinct sites during the same season....
Introduction: Infections with hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV and HCV) are a major global health problem. Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) on hemodialysis constitute a population at risk of HBV and HCV infections.
Objective: Determining prevalence of the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg) and antibodies to hepatitis C virus (anti-...
Introduction: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is considered a major public health problem, with 200 million people infected worldwide. The treatment for HCV chronic infection with pegylated interferon alpha plus ribavirin inhibitors is unspecific; consequently, the treatment is effective in only 50% of patients infected. This has prompted the development o...

There is no comprehensive study available on the natural hepatitis C virus (HCV) polymorphism in sites associated with resistance including all viral genotypes, which may present variable susceptibilities to particular direct-acting antivirals (DAA). This study aimed to analyze the frequency, genetic barrier, and evolutionary history of naturally-o...
