The project basically explores the determinants of health and wage induced productivity for the urban and rural workers in Nigeria. Available statistics points to possible dualism and heterogeneity associated with variations in urban-rural economic opportunities, health outcomes and productivity differences in Nigeria.Over the years, the increased migration has greatly widened the gap, and so the level of poverty equally affected in the two areas. The widespread of poverty in Nigeria is alarming and attributed— besides other factors—to the differences in health quality and wage patterns in the urban and rural areas (Nwaka 2005). In this regards, utilizing the two-waves of the 2010/2012 and 2012/2012 General Household Survey (GHS) panel data for Nigeria, this study raises the following questions: What are the determinants of health in urban-rural Nigeria?. What are the effects of health and other characteristics in urban – rural wage induced productivity differences amongst workers? Associated findings will indeed be of immense policy concern in the efforts towards improving urban-rural welfare sustainability.
