Çevreci ve sürdürülebilir bir kent oluşturmak önce iyi bir ulaştırma altyapısı ve ana planı ile sağlanabilir. Bunun için gerekli olan ulaştırma yatırımlarının planlanması, mevcut ulaştırma sistemlerinin ve altyapısının iyi yönetilmesi ve düzenlenmesi gereklidir. Bu kapsamda Kütahya Belediyesi (KB) ve Kütahya Dumlupınar Üniversitesi (DPÜ) işbirliği ile Kütahya ili analiz bölgesi kabul edilerek, mevcut ulaştırma altyapısıyla insanların yaptıkları yolculuklar farklı sosyoekonomik özellikleri ile mevcut ve alternatif ulaştırma sistemlerinin özellikleri araştırılarak, yolculuk yapma, ulaştırma türü ve güzergâh tercihlerinin kısa (ilk 5 yıl), orta (5-10 yıl) ve uzun (10-20 yıl) vade için ulaştırma modelleri geliştirilecektir. Bu amaçla literatürde mevcut kullanılan geleneksel modellerin yanı sıra, yeni yaklaşımların entegrasyonu sağlanarak hibrit modellerle birlikte Kütahya’ya özgü model parametreleri geliştirilerek ulaştırma modelleri oluşturulacaktır. Artan araç sahipliği nedeniyle günümüzde yaşanan diğer önemli bir sorun da otopark alanları için erişilebilirlik ve yetersiz kapasite sorunudur. Bu kapsamda, mevcut ve potansiyel otopark yerlerinin tespiti ve sürücülerin en uygun otopark alanına yönlendirilmesi için optimizasyon teknikleri kullanılarak Kütahya’ya özgü bir model geliştirilecektir.

Passenger and freight transportation is mostly carried out by highways in our country. Therefore,the safety has become a critical parameter in automobile industry and transportation systems in recent years. The increase in population and automobile ownership lead a dramatic increase in number of traffic accidents causing loss of life and economic resources. Although driver faults have shown to be the main cause of accidents in the recent years, road defects are also very critical factors causing traffic accidents. The low sliding resistance on the pavement surface is found to be a common problem while investigating the accidents caused by road defects. Accidents are becoming inevitable and dangerous when the roads are wet on a low sliding resistance surface. This relation clearly demonstrates the importance of the slip resistance parameter for the road surface. For this reason, many methods and devices have been developed in the literature for measuring the skid and sliding resistance of the pavement surface The British Pendulum Tester (BPT) is a portable device that enables the determination of the skid resistance of the surfaces including asphalt pavement, concrete, pavement markings, etc. Thus, it is among the most common devices that can be used both in the field and in the laboratory. TS EN 1097-8 and ASTM E303 standards are used in defining and evaluating the measurements. The use of the British Pendulum Tester in conjunction with the Accelerated Polishing Machine (TPD/PSV) will be even more effective in evaluating the effects of the vehicle tires on road surface when working in the laboratory. By adding these two devices to the Transportation Lab in our department, both laboratory and field tests will be available for testing the skid resistance of hard surfaces, specifically roads in the area. These devices will make intellectual and economic contribution to our department.

Road pavements are produced in the form of Bituminous Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) or surface dressing in general. In this study, the aggregate-bitumen relationship of surface dressing, which is preferred more due to its low cost, was investigated. Surface dressing cost is much lower than HMA. Therefore, it is used more than the HMA. Surface dressing is more affected by climatic changes. However, surface dressing manufactured with suitable designs can serve during their service life. In experimental studies, aggregate, bitumen and mixture test results were evaluated together. Limestone and basalt aggregates were used as the aggregates. As the bitumens; 50/70 and 70/100 penetration grade bitumens, as an additive; 10% waste rubber and 1% PVC are used in the experiments. Peeling resistance and adhesion (Vialit plate) tests were applied to measure the performance. According to the experimental results; in the adhesion (Vialit) tests, the performance of limestone samples was found to be better than basalt samples. 50/70 penetration grade bitumen provides better adhesion with limestone aggregates, while 70/100 bitumen provides better adhesion in basalt aggregates. Waste rubber and PVC fibers increase adhesion strength between aggregate and bitumen. In addition, the wastes used as additives revel a good performance when the limestone is used as an aggregate. Waste rubber and PVC fibers increase the adhesion strength which is low in basalt aggregates especially. In 70/100 penetration grade bitumen, the homogeneous dispersion of the wastes as the additives is facilitated due to the consistency of the bitumen, thus increasing the adhesion strength can be easily observed. In the context of peeling strength, limestone aggregates and the bitumen modified by the waste rubber provided the best performance.
