Long waiting times in outpatient clinics have multiple adverse effects on patients and their attendants, staff and hospital management. Several approaches practiced to manage the cycle time have been proposed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of implementing closed-loop based multiple approaches together. This study was conducte...

There are number of languages around the world and knowing all the languages is very difficult for any person. At the same time, unawareness about the language will hinder communication. Language identification is the process where the identifying the language(s) in text form is performed based on the writing style and looking at the unique diacrit...

The area of autonomous vehicles is of huge research interest and much has been accomplished in this area. This study involves three aspects: lane detection, object detection, and autonomous driving. Lane detection and object detection has been simulated in the CARLA simulator using TensorFlow and OpenCV libraries of Python. Canny edge detection alg...

Evolutionary algorithms, such as genetic algorithms have been used in various optimization problems. In this paper, we propose to apply this algorithm to obtain the layout design/redesign in order to improve the patient flow in an outpatient clinic. Layout designs are planned considering long-term requirements whereas the layout keeps modifying as...
Article
This study demonstrates that studying management and entrepreneurship curriculum is an important component during engineering education. A pre-survey was conducted to understand the preconceived knowledge about management and entrepreneurship among students. Later, after the completion of the course, a post-survey was carried out to observe the imp...

Data retrieval is an important aspect of data management. In this paper, we design an ANN to recognize the learned patterns. We use a three-layer feed-forward network for the training of patterns (bitmap data). We implement two kinds of recognition: forced recognition and custom-specific recognition. The ANN model developed recognizes the pattern e...

Brain Computing Interface (BCI) technology is a promising field to reinstate the information to patients suffering from Neurological Disorders. In this paper we will be taking a look at the signal acquisition techniques used in the BCI system, it suggests which technique is best to acquire the brain signals. The pre-processing methods that are used...
Article
The performance of outpatient clinics is measured through waiting times and resource utilization and the reasons for low performance is often viewed as operations issues: planning, scheduling and coordination between resources and patients. In this study, we show that layout design also contributes towards operations management. Here we propose wor...
Chapter
Hospital systems are under constant pressure to provide quality care despite limited resources. However, traditional capacity management in hospitals is often not effective enough. One reason for this is the variability and uncertainty in the healthcare field that has to be managed. Another reason is the observation that hospitals are open loop sys...

Scheduling of resources and patients are crucial in outpatient clinics, particularly when the patient demand is high and patient arrivals are random. Generally, outpatient clinic systems are push systems where scheduling is based on average demand prediction and is considered for long term (monthly or bimonthly). Often, planning and actual scenario...

Diabetes is a condition which is detected when the blood glucose levels in the body is high due to the lack of presence of Insulin. Increased sugar levels in blood leads to complications like heart diseases and stroke. With increased use of Machine Learning techniques in the healthcare sectors, it becomes particularly important to detect diabetes i...

This study addressed the problem of scheduling walk-in patients in real time. Outpatient clinics encounter uncertainty in patient demand. In addition, the disparate departments are locally (department-centric) organized, leading to prolonged waiting times for patients. The proposed integral patient scheduling model incorporates the status and infor...

Background and context Resource planning is performed ahead of time within outpatient clinics (OPC). Due to local control of operations (department-centric decision-making) and limited resources, OPCs cannot handle high variability and uncertainty in demand. There is always a difference between planning and reality, and this leads to operational pr...
