Introduction
Jouni K. Juntunen is a Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Vaasa. His research focuses on crowd-based organizing in the development of sustainability innovations, and he ia subproject PI for the Academy of Finland funded DigiDecarbon consortium and WP leader for EU Horizon project HOCLOOP. He is a responsible teacher of the Open and User Innovation teaching module at University of Vaasa.

A business phenomena / practice of disposing unsold new product before even usage starts has gained attention lately. Clothing giants like H&M and Burberry have been burning new clothes. Burberry though, promised to abandon this practice. Similarly, Amazon (in Germany) has found to destroy returned unused goods. This unsustainable practice seems to be rather widely used. Is there any academic literature, including interesting empirics, case studies, theorising that has been done to research this phenomena?
Is there any proper way to create a bidirectional fussy set outcome for QCA analysis? Lets say outcome can be for example loss or profit (company creating loss or profit). With crisp set you could mark loss as 0 and outcome with profit as 1. How about taking into account magnitude of loss or profit and going into fsqca? 0 would be extreme big loss and 1 would be extreme large profit and loss and profit can take value between 0 to 1 (after calibration). Basically you would calibrate profits between 0.5-1 and losses between 0-0.5. Is logically ok to create this type of outcome variable? Can you point to any publications where this has been done?
