Introduction
PhD in Biotechnology, with one year at the ICVV in Logroño, Spain, working with host adaptation of Tetranychus urticae on vines. Currently is a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Biology, UWO, London, Canadá. Experience in transcriptomic analysis of grapevine response to Panonychus ulmi and molecular markers for population differentiation, and ecology of phytophagous and predatory mites. I also have experience in molecular diagnosis and pharmacogenomics on an open array platform.

Predictive studies project the geographic distribution of species and can be used to infer climatic niches. However, only a few studies have been conducted on mites. This approach helps map areas with potential for the occurrence of endemic, threatened, or potentially invasive species. Panonychus ulmi (Tetranychidae) is of global economic importanc...
The 53rd Ontario Ecology, Ethology, and Evolution Colloquium (OE3C 2023) took place at Western University (London, Canada) on 25-27 May 2023, attracting 160 participants. This Meeting Review aims not only to recapitulate what was discussed during the event, but also to provide a brief synthesis of how biologists can move forward. The event was orga...
Phytoseiids are important biological control agents on different cultivated plants. This work aimed to know the diversity of phytoseiids and compare the abundance and richness of these mites found in grape-producing regions located in northern Portugal. Samplings were conducted in the subregions of Ave, Cávado, Douro, Lima and Minho Rivers between...
The production of apples (Malus domestica: Rosaceae) in Brazil is concentrated in three states in the southern region of the country. This crop is of great economic importance for the region, and is usually susceptible to infestations of mite populations. However, recent surveys of mite species associated to apples are scarce. The aim of the presen...
Phytophagous mites can cause economic losses in many crops, including grapevines. The changes in their population levels may be associated with changes in the predator-prey relationship. Knowledge of the distribution of mites in plants is important for planning sampling strategies and facilitating control decisions. The aims of this study were to (...
Panonychus ulmi is widely distributed in apple and vineyards worldwide. In Brazil, the first damages were observed in apple orchard and later in grapevine. The aim of this study was to evaluate feeding preference and biological traits of P. ulmi on different grapevine varieties (BRS Vitória, Merlot and Concord) and apple (Fuji) under laboratory con...
The potential (predictive) distribution modelling is a forecasting tool for species distribution, using occurrence records and correlating them with the interaction of algorithms and environmental variables. Aculus schlechtendali (Nalepa) is a phytophagous mite of economic importance, associated with losses in apple trees. The present study aimed t...
The dispersion of insects and mites can be favored by many factors, including the increasing circulation of plant materials. Special attention is needed to the eriophyoid mites, which have a greater potential as introduced species, due to their physical and biological characteristics. Aculus schlechtendali (Nalepa) (Eriophyidae, Apple Rust Mite - A...
Viticulture is an activity of economic importance in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, especially in Serra Gaúcha, which is the major grape-producing region. However, an increase in cultivated areas has been observed in other municipalities in the state. The aim of this study is to characterize mite diversity and community behavior on different varie...
The aim of this study was to investigate the biology and life table parameters of the predatory mite Agistemus floridanus Gonzalez (Stigmaeidae) feeding on Panonychus ulmi (Koch) (Tetranychidae). The experiment was initiated with 34 eggs of A. floridanus isolated in experimental units and maintained in a controlled environment at 25 ± 1 °C, 12 L:12...
This study aims to present an intraspecific variation observed in Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus) pyri Scheuten specimens collected from vineyards in Northwest Portugal. The variation was characterized by the presence of J1 setae on the dorsal shield in individuals from this population. ARTICLE HISTORY
The occurrence of phytophagous mites such as Panonychus ulmi may be influenced by leaf morphology, with
different behaviors according to the vine varieties, and little is known on the preference of predators of the family
Phytoseiidae. The aim of this study was to evaluate the abundance of Phytoseiid species on different white and
red grape varieti...
Knowledge about phytoseiid species associated with vines is a preliminary step in the development and implementation of integrated management strategies against phytophagous mites such as Panonychus ulmi. The aim of this study was to perform a comparative survey of phytoseiids present in abandoned, organically managed, and conventionally managed vi...
Grapevines are attacked by diseases and pests, and strategies used by wine makers for the control of these involve the use of agrochemicals, causing in balancing of predator-prey ratios. The spider mite Panonychus ulmi causes damage to grapevines in the South of Brazil, whereas Neoseiulus californicus is the most frequently used predatory mite in b...
Avaliação em laboratório do efeito dos principais agroquímicos utilizados na cultura da videira no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, sobre Panonychus ulmi.
The development of Panonychus ulmi feeding on apple leaves has been widely studied, but nothing is known about its development on grapevine leaves. This study aimed to gather biological information on P. ulmi based on its life table on leaves of Cabernet Sauvignon (CS) and Pinot Noir (PN) grapevine cultivars, and check the oviposition rate of popul...
The aim of this work is to report the presence of Aculus schlechtendali (Nalepa, 1890) (Prostigmata: Eriophyidae) (Apple rust mite—ARM), in apple orchards of Serra Gaúcha, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Surveys were conducted from apple leaves of Gala cultivar in a commercial orchard of Vacaria County (S 28' 34.540 W 050' 52.153) in the Northe...
Interactions between birds and mites have allowed mites to act as ectoparasites or to be associated with the micro-environments of nests. The aim of this study was to identify the mite fauna associated with wild bird nests in the rural and urban zones of different environments, and analyze the importance of birds as potential carriers of these orga...
A new species of Molothrognathus Summers and Schlinger (1955) (Caligonellidae), Molothrognathus brasiliensis Silva, Brentano & Ferla sp. nov., is described and illustrated, and Paraneognathus wangae (Fan & Li, 1995) is reported for the first time from south of Brazil.
House dust mites (HDM) are globally distributed in human habitats. The most favourable locations for their development are carpets, curtains, couches, mattresses and pillows. This association with indoor environments makes HDM one of the most important sources of indoor allergens. Distribution and concentration may be influenced by food availabilit...
Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) sabelisi n. sp., a member of the rhenanus species group, is described from the State of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, based on specimens collected from house dust removed from a curtain using a vacuum cleaner. So far, only Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) ornatus (Denmark & Muma, 1973) and T. (A.) transvaalensis (Nesbitt...
