Over the past years, the assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have been accompanied by constant innovations. For instance, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), time-lapse monitoring of the embryonic morphokinetics, and PGS are innovative techniques that increased the success of the ART. In the same trend, the use of artificial intelligence...
Based on growing demand for assisted reproduction technology, improved predictive models are required to optimize in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmatic sperm injection strategies, prioritizing single embryo transfer. There are still several obstacles to overcome for the purpose of improving assisted reproductive success, such as intra-and inter...

The interface Blasto3Q (3Q is referred to the three qualities of the blastocyst grading) contains a description of 24 variables that are extracted from the ima...
The beer quality can be modulated from changes in their ingredient proportions, as well as in operating parameters. The crossed experimental designs and the multiple optimizations based on desirability functions have demonstrated to be effective methodologies in the unit operation polynomial modeling and optimization of bioprocess, respectively. Ho...

The water quality index (WQI) is an important tool for water resource management and planning. However, it has major disadvantages: the generation of chemical waste, is costly, and time-consuming. In order to overcome these drawbacks, we propose to simplify this index determination by replacing traditional analytical methods with ultraviolet-visibl...
There is currently no objective, real-time and non-invasive method for evaluating the quality of mammalian embryos. In this study, we processed images of in vitro produced bovine blastocysts to obtain a deeper comprehension of the embryonic morphological aspects that are related to the standard evaluation of blastocysts. Information was extracted f...
Morphological analysis is the standard method of assessing embryo quality; however, its inherent subjectivity tends to generate discrepancies among evaluators. Using genetic algorithms and artificial neural networks (ANNs), we developed a new method for embryo analysis that is more robust and reliable than standard methods. Bovine blastocysts produ...
One of the major challenges in stream ecology is the development of computational models that can predict aspects of the community structure of organisms from these ecosystems when they are subject to natural or artificial environmental fluctuations. To contribute towards this aim, we conducted a study whose main goal was to evaluate the efficiency...
This work aimed to determinate eight beer properties using UV-Vis spectrums in combination with principal component regression (PCR) or artificial neural network (ANN) models. A statistical experimental design was performed to generate the calibration data. Firstly, principal component analysis was applied to original spectral data, the scores in s...
The conflict between humans and wild carnivores due to predation on livestock has been one reason that made the mammalian Order Carnivora as one of the groups with most threatened species. In Brazil, the predation by pumas has been recorded in various regions and results in harsh persecution on these animals. The primary goal of this study of ours...
Morphological embryo classification is of great importance for many laboratory techniques, from basic research to the ones applied to assisted reproductive technology. However, the standard classification method for both human and cattle embryos, is based on quality parameters that reflect the overall morphological quality of the embryo in cattle,...
This work aimed to establish a chemometric technique for quantifying amylase and protease activities as well as protein concentration in aqueous extracts of Rhizopus microsporus var. oligosporus obtained via solid-state fermentation (SSF). The kinetics of four agro-industrial wastes (wheat bran, soybean meal, type II wheat flour and sugarcane bagas...
This work objective was to define a modeling approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) for optimizing parameters of an artificial neural network (ANN); the latter describes rabies virus production in BHK-21 cells based on empirical data derived from uniform designs (UDs) with different numbers of experimental runs. The parameters considered for vira...
Currently, mammalian cells are the most utilized hosts for biopharmaceutical production. The culture media for these cell lines include commonly in their composition a pH indicator. Spectroscopic techniques are used for biopharmaceutical process monitoring, among them, UV-Vis spectroscopy has found scarce applications. This work aimed to define art...
This work aimed to compare the predictive capacity of empirical models, based on the uniform design utilization combined to artificial neural networks with respect to classical factorial designs in bioprocess, using as example the rabies virus replication in BHK-21 cells. The viral infection process parameters under study were temperature (34, 37 o...
Embryonic morphological classification has great importance for numerous laboratory techniques (from basic to applied research in assisted reproduction). However, the method used to perform the classification of embryos in varying degrees of quality has always been based on the subjectivity of the evaluator. Although quality standards and descripti...
Morphologically classifying embryos is important for numerous laboratory techniques, which range from basic methods to methods for assisted reproduction. However, the standard method currently used for classification is subjective and depends on an embryologist’s prior training. Thus, our work was aimed at developing software to classify morphologi...

Despite several observational studies have produced important contributions to knowledge of stream macroalgal ecology, gaps still remain about the relationship of the environment and ecological distribution patterns of these organisms. As an alternative to improve the understanding of the ecology of these algae, experimental investigations began to be conducted in Brazil. Exactly in experimental ecology of tropical stream macroalgae that this research intends to make its main contributions. In this context, two experimental studies are being proposed in order to assess (1) the influences of substrate complexity, hydraulic conditions and physical disturbances and (2) the effects of anthropogenic substances on the establishment and development of stream macroalgae. In the first study, experiments have been conducted in order to simulate the occurrence of physical disturbances on artificial substrates with five different levels of structural complexity and specific hydraulic conditions. The effects of these variables will be assessed considering as response variables richness (number of species) and abundance (percent cover and chlorophyll a content) of macroalgae. In the second study, laboratorial experiments have been conducted aiming evaluate the effects of different concentrations of glyphosate herbicides on photosynthetic responses of macroalgal species. Photosynthetic responses are assessed by two techniques: (i) chlorophyll fluorescence and (ii) dissolved oxygen evolution.
In this Project we investigate the reasons and possible solutions to the conflict of feline top predators and livestock
