Introduction
My main research lines are in Cognitive Informatics and Brain-Computer Interfaces. I'm currently focused on developing bio-inspired computational models of cognitive functions such as decision-making, planning, working memory, and attention. Additionally, I'm working on Brain-Computer Interfaces for therapeutic purposes.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that affects a large number of young people in the world. The current treatments for children living with ADHD combine different approaches, such as pharmacological, behavioral, cognitive, and psychological t...

The need for engaging treatment approaches in mental health care has led to the developing of new applications based on serious game approaches. These approaches have facilitated the development of promising tools for dealing with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This paper presents a novel system called CogniDron-EEG. This system is based...

The pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process, is a novel method for the purification and production of bioethanol. A highly non-linear rigorous model is implemented to simulate the cyclic dynamics of PSA, achieving purity of 99% wt of ethanol, which meets international standards to be used as fuel. The contribution of this work focuses on obtaining...
Conference Paper
In this work is presented a modified version of the K-Means which identifies cluster stability. The stability is defined by a threshold based on a percentage of the largest displacement of centroid at first iteration. A cluster is considered stable when the largest centroid displacement in the current iteration achieves the 10% of threshold, and ob...

Visuospatial working memory is a fundamental cognitive capability of human beings needed for exploring the visual environment. This cognitive function is responsible for creating visuospatial maps, which are useful for maintaining a coherent and continuous representation of visual and spatial relationships among objects present in the external worl...

New technologies based on artificial agents promise to change the next generation of autonomous systems and therefore our interaction with them. Systems based on artificial agents such as self-driving cars and social robots are examples of this technology that is seeking to improve the quality of people’s life. Cognitive architectures aim to create...

Cognitive architectures aim to create some of the most challenging artificial agents commonly known as bio-inspired cognitive agents. This type of artificial agent seeks to embody human-like intelligence in order to operate and solve problems in the real world as humans do. Therefore, researchers in the machine ethics field face ethical questions r...

One of the objectives in the field of artificial intelligence for some decades has been the development of artificial agents capable of coexisting in harmony with people and other systems. The computing research community has made efforts to design artificial agents capable of doing tasks the way people do, tasks requiring cognitive mechanisms such...

Scene classification is a computer vision task that aims to identify the kind of scene (such as forest, mountain, beach) where a picture was taken. Scene classification has application in the development of automatic surveillance systems, robotic navigation, content-based image retrieval systems among other areas. According to how a scene is recogn...

Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder is considered a mental disease that affects a significant number of the world’s youth population. Brain-computer interfaces have been used to study and treat this mental disease. In this paper, we present the current state of unmanned aerial vehicles controlled by mental commands. We hope this study can be u...

Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is considered a mental disease that affects an estimated 5% of the world's youth population. Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) such as Electroencephalograms (EEGs) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) have been used to study and treat this mental disease. This paper shows the plausibility o...

This paper shows the relevance of requirements engineering process for developing software. A case study of requirements engineering process applied for developing a software of brain-computer interface is presented. This interface will be used in the children's therapy with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The requirements obtained aim to...

Emotion regulation is a process by which human beings control emotional behaviors. From neuroscientific evidence, this mechanism is the product of conscious or unconscious processes. In particular, the mechanism generated by a conscious process needs a priori components to be computed. Among these components are the behaviors generated by previous...

Machine ethics, also known as artificial morality, is a newly emerging field concerned with ensuring appropriate behavior of machines toward humans and other machines. In this article, we discuss the importance of machine ethics and present a computational model of ethical decision-making for autonomous agents. The proposed model implements a mecha...

The planning is one of the most important cognitive functions of the human beings. It is essential for the solution of mental and physical problems. This paper shows a conceptual and computational model of motor planning. It is based on recent findings of the human brain and how the human can develop several motor plans in order to solve their dail...

There are a great variety of theoretical models of cognition whose main purpose is to explain the inner workings of the human brain. Researchers from areas such as neuroscience, psychology, and physiology have proposed these models. Nevertheless, most of these models are based on empirical studies and on experiments with humans, primates, and roden...
Conference Paper
In areas such as psychology and neuroscience a common approach to study human behavior has been the development of theoretical models of cognition. In fields such as artificial intelligence, these cognitive models are usually translated into computational implementations and incorporated into the architectures of intelligent autonomous agents (AAs)...
