This study intends to contribute to more understanding of the physical and mental resilience of (student) nurses. The cohort study is the first step in developing an innovative predictive model for retaining students in the nursing profession.
Threatening job shortages and decentralizing health care, demand competencies of nurses to self-manage their health. Little scientific knowledge is available regarding retaining nurses in their profession. In this study we want to examine the causes of exit from a nursing career among student nurses and nurses at the start of their professional career. The objective of this project is to build a prospective cohort study with the aim to gain insight into risk factors and to predict mental and physical health problems, productivity loss and drop out in this population.
