Introduction
I'm interested in the study of endangered species, biodiversity, conservation, phylogeny, and systematics, a broad field that includes the discovery, description, and classification of life and the inference of evolutionary relationships. Currently, my research involves conservation, ecology, evolution, and biogeography of freshwater fish, particularly those distributed in South American basins. Currently, my focus is oriented to description and delimitation species of Neotropical fishes a

As a result of collections made during the dry seasons of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2020, 247 species of fish, grouped in 14 orders and 47 families were identified. Six new records for Colombia stand out: Adontosternarchus sachsi, Trachydoras gepharti, Megalodoras guayoensis, Hypostomus rhantos, Gnatholebias zonatus and Plagioscion auratus,...

Panstrongylus geniculatus (Latreille, 1811) is the triatomine with the largest geographic distribution in Latin America. It has been reported in 18 countries from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, including the Caribbean islands. Although most reports indicate that P. geniculatus has wild habitats, this species has intrusive habits regarding h...

Catfishes of the family Astroblepidae form a group composed by 82 valid species of the genus Astroblepus inhabiting high-gradient streams and rivers throughout tropical portions of the Andean Cordillera. Little has been advanced in the systematics and biodiversity of astroblepids other than an unpublished thesis, a single regional multilocus study...

An annotated list of the freshwater fishes of the Río Alvarado drainage, Upper Río Magdalena Basin is presented. Fishes were captured from nine localities, quarterly sampled between September 2012 and July 2013. A total of 36 species belonging to 14 families, distributed in five orders were collected. The most abundant species was Trichomycterus ba...

A new species of Pristella is described from the Río Meta drainage, Río Orinoco basin, Colombia. Pristella ariporo, new species, is described as the second known species of the genus and differs from P. maxillaris by lacking maxillary teeth, possessing all teeth of premaxilla and dentary conical, by the absence of a dark blotch on the pelvic fin an...

A new species of Pimelodella is described from northern coastal drainages of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), Colombia. The new species is diagnosed from all trans-Andean congeners by the following unique combination of characters: head length 22.2–23.7% SL, bony interorbital width 17.6–21.6% HL, maxillary barbels length 53.0–68.3% SL, inne...

Accurate species delimitation is crucial for studies of phylogeny, phylogeography, ecology, conservation and biogeography. The limits of species and genera in the Characidae family are controversial due to its uncertain phylogenetic relationships, high level of morphological homoplasy and the use of ambiguous morphological characters for descriptio...

Tatia caudosignata, new species, is described from terra firme streams of the Colombian Amazon. The new species is distinguished from congeners by its unique coloration pattern consisting of dorsal region of head and body cloaked in dark pigment, fading to pale towards ventral region; dorsal fin almost completely dark (excepting distal margin and l...

This paper describes the Photafish System, an innovative technique for capturing high-quality digital images of live freshwater fishes and other aquatic organisms in the field. This system may improve and facilitate the visual documentation of such organisms to illustrate guidebooks, populate online databases and support scientific papers, particul...

DNA barcoding has been used as a universal tool for delimiting species boundaries in taxonomically challenging animal groups and currently appear to be a method in systematic studies. Additionally, the growing of methods to analyze multilocus datasets in the coalescent-based framework has provided better resolution of species limits in cases of cry...

The Neotropical family Scoloplacidae is a monogeneric group of miniature freshwater catfishes that includes 6 species. Scoloplax dicra has the widest distribution across the Amazon basin, except in the western upper portions. We collected 3 specimens from localities close to Leticia in Colombia, corresponding to S. baileyi and S. dicra , constituti...

A new species of Creagrutus is described from several localities in the upper Río Magdalena drainage, Colombia. Creagrutus dulima n. sp. differs from all trans-Andean congeners by the combination of a relatively small orbital diameter, the shape and position of hooks on the pelvic-fin rays, in having the third infraorbital not in contact with the p...

Malacoglanis gelatinosus, a species of miniature catfish of the family Trichomycteridae, is only known from 4 specimens from the Amazon basin. Recently, we collected 3 specimens from the upper basin of the Meta River, a tributary of the Orinoco. This is the first record of M. gelatinosus from the Orinoco river basin, which significantly expands the...

In May and June 2008 we conducted a rapid assessment to the low part of the Anamichú river basin, before never studied. Field surveys were done in three sites principally in relictual forests and agriculture areas. We registered a whole of 106 species birds, of these there were found 6 new reports of distribution for the Tolima’s department, two ar...

In Colombia a dam, Betania Reservoir, has been constructed on the main cannel of the Magdalena River, and another, the El Quimbo Hydroelectric Project which is located upstream of the first, is under construction. The dams not only generate fragmentation processes in the aquatic ecosystems, but also create artificial hybrid systems that impact the...

Project
This initiative aims to present a new online and interactive visual resource, which will allow specialists and the general public to know, study and assess the Colombia's richness of fish. Likewise, it aims to create a space of confluence and unity for entities and people who wish to contribute to the study and conservation of freshwater ecosystems. This proposal involves the creation of a web portal, which will be constantly updated, to collect information associated with data from biological collections and which in the future may be linked to other existing platforms. Consequently, tools will be developed that allow visual comparison between species for academic and research purposes, as well as visually attractive compositions for education and dissemination..
