The relationship between the laboratory method of instruction, students' attitudes toward geometry, and gender on geometry performance was examined in this study. The investigation was conducted in the Jalingo metropolis of Taraba State, Nigeria. Both correlational and quasi-experimental designs were used in the investigation. The study included 16...
Long acknowledged as the foundation for a country's growth and prosperity are four disciplines-science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Education in these four fields has several advantages for women in terms of long-term social and economic advancement. The perennial problem of poor performance of students in mathematics has made stakeholders in the education sector undertake several types of research, with diverse findings on the causes, with different recommendations for improvement. In this study Eng-Hau, a coinage for the combination of the English and Hausa languages was used to teach algebra...
This study was undertaken to find out the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach on senior secondary school students' achievement in algebra. The design of the study was quasi-experimental pre test-post test control group. Four hundred and forty seven senior secondary one (SS I) students of six grant-aided and government schools sampled us...
One of the most important outcomes of any educational setup is the achievement of the students. Among the tools for the assessment of students' academic achievement, computer-based testing (CBT) is considered more useful than paper-based testing (PBT), because of the inherent advantages of CBT. However, controversies still exist among the scholars...
The pattern of behaviour adopted by a student in his/her study is his/her study habits, which reveals his/her personality. Study habits serve as the vehicle of learning and may be seen as both means and ends to learning. This study, thus, investigated the study habits of secondary school science students in the Jalingo metropolis, Taraba State, Nig...
Emotional intelligence is a cross-section of integrated emotional, social capabilities and skills that regulate how successfully
people recognize and express their emotions, recognize others feelings and relate with them, and handle daily stresses or pressures,
effectively. In this study of survey research, the relationship between emotional intell...
The study evaluated students' achievement in mathematics using four methods of instruction. Sample of the study was 130 Junior Secondary School students from 4 schools in Taraba State, Nigeria. Quasi-experimental design was adopted. Data was generated using Terminal Mathematics Achievement Tests whose reliability indices were computed using Kuder-R...
The academic performance of students in mathematics has been a source of concern to researchers, educators, government and parents. Efforts to improve students' outcomes in mathematics have led to several studies to determine the predictors of academic performance in mathematics among various groups of individuals. This study, therefore, examined g...
This study investigated students’ perception of teachers’ attitude towards learning in Mathematics. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey design. Using simple random sampling of hat and draw, a sample of 300 out of 1,500 students in the School of Preliminary and General Studies, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Nigeria was used for the stud...
The study investigated the factors responsible for students’ learning difficulties in algebra in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. A sample of 360 students (180 JS3 and 180 SS3) was used in the study. The students responded to open ended questions on challenges they face in the learning of algebra as well as mathematics achievement Test-...
This research work studies the human brain information processing dynamics by transforming the stage model formulated by Atkinson and Shiffrin into two deterministic mathematical models. This makes it more amenable to mathematical analysis. The two models are bottom-up processing mathematical model and top-down processing mathematical model. The bo...
This study was undertaken to assess gendered differences in mathematics achievement and retention by using Problem-Based Learning (PBL). The design of the study was pre test – post test quasi-experimental. Four hundred and twenty eight senior secondary one (SS I) students from ten grant-aided and government schools sampled using multistage sampling...
The study is an examination of the remedial students' understanding of the usefulness of mathematics, perceptions on teacher's attitudes and mathematics as a male domain as predictors of their personal confidence in mathematics in Taraba State University, Jalingo in Nigeria. The study adopted the quantitative survey design. The population of 1500 s...
The study investigated the effect of games and simulations on the achievement and interest of students in geometry. The sample for this study consisted of 287out of 1,435 Senior Secondary (SS1) students from 6 out of the 46 secondary schools in Gwer-West LGA of Benue state. The study adopted a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design, where...
Games and simulations method was used to address the rural-urban difference in achievement and interest of students in Benue State of Nigeria. Two research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The sample is made up of 70 urban and 59 rural students. One group pre-test post-test design was used on intact classes. Data were generated using GAT...
