Introduction
I am a geotechnical engineer with special expertise in numerical simulations as well as in the installation and bearing behaviour of
vibratory-driven open tubular piles. As a research associate I was conducting research about the static lateral bearing behaviour of vibratory-driven monopiles at the Institute for Geotechnical Engineering of the University of Stuttgart. Currently I am enrolled at Arcadis Germany as geotechnical consultant working on different industrial projects.

Open steel pipe piles are used for various applications in costal engineering and port structures and they are becoming increasingly more important for offshore structures. A plug formed during the installation of open steel pipe piles has an influence on the installation process of the steel pipe pile as well as on the final bearing behaviour and...
Monopiles are large diameter open steel pipe piles, which are often used as foundation for offshore wind power plants. The lateral bearing behaviour of monopiles can be calculated with the p-y method. There are different p-y approaches in literature. Recent approaches have been developed based on experimental results with impact-driven piles. Thoug...
This paper presents a comparison between two different but dependent model test set-ups to investigate the vibratory pile penetration and lateral loading behaviour in sand. Relevant considerations were made regarding the dimensional analysis, identifying the wave propagation velocity in the pile as well as the displacement amplitude in combination...
The paper presents some results of an experimental study on the cyclic lateral loaddisplacement behavior of vibratory driven monopiles in dense sand. The test setup and the measurement devices used are explained. Subsequently, the results of pore water and earth pressure measurement of three experiments are presented. These results are set in relat...
In this paper, the digital underground approach of Arcadis, a work-in-progress, will be presented describing the transformation from a classical 2D to digital 3D thinking process in the design of geotechnical structures. Certain pitfalls as well as lessons learned are described, i.e. the interested reader is able to understand that the digitalizati...
The paper describes the experimental setup used at the Institute for Geotechnical Engineering (IGS) at the University of Stuttgart to investigate the lateral load bearing behaviour of vibratory-driven steel pipe piles in dense saturated sand. The test material, the measurement devices and the experimental procedure are explained in a comprehensive...
Open steel pipe piles are used for various applications in coastal engineering and port structures as well they are getting more and more important for offshore structures. Especially in Europe there are already many offshore wind energy parks realized and more are planned. When designing these piles, different aspects influencing the axial and lat...
The application of basal reinforced piled embankments and earth structures is an approved method particularly in traffic route engineering as technique for transferring static and variable loads on soft soils into deeper stiffer soil layers. Different recommendations are based on specific geometrical, mechanical and load related boundary conditions...
In Europe many offshore wind power parks have already been realized and more are planned. Often monopiles are used as foundation for wind power plants. The determination of the axial pile capacity of monopiles is among the important issues for offshore energy projects. Despite progress made so far in this field, there are still big challenges faced...
Open steel pipe piles are used for various applications in costal engineering, port structures and increasingly important for offshore structures. During the installation of open steel pipe piles the formation of a plug has an influence on the installation process of the pile and also on the final bearing capacity. The formation of the plug depends...
