Introduction
I am a Research Fellow at Stretton Health Equity in the Stretton Institute at the University of Adelaide. I have qualifications and experience in economics and public health, and expertise in quantitative analysis. My research focuses on health equity and social determinants of health. I am a member of the international Punching Above Weight Network, advancing thinking and research about why some countries do much better in terms of health outcomes than would be predicted by economic status.

Maintaining individuals with health limitations in the labour force is a challenge of growing importance. Determining the effect of health on occupation may tell us how people adapt to their limitations, and what types of jobs make this harder or easier. This paper uses the first 14 waves of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Su...

Logic modelling is used widely in health promotion planning for complex health and social problems. It is often undertaken collaboratively with stakeholders across sectors that hold and enact different institutional approaches. We use hermeneutic philosophy to explore how knowledge is ‘lived’ by – and unfolds differently for – cross-sectoral stakeh...

Background: A comprehensive understanding of temporal trends in the disease burden in Australia is lacking, and these trends are required to inform health service planning and improve population health. We explored the burden and trends of diseases and their risk factors in Australia from 1990 to 2019 through a comprehensive analysis of the Global...

Previous research on commercial determinants of health has primarily focused on their impact on non-communicable diseases. However, they also impact on infectious diseases and on the broader preconditions for health. We describe, through case studies in 16 countries, how commercial determinants of health were visible during the COVID-19 pandemic, a...

This study aimed to build a comprehensive descriptive profile of homelessness and associated health need...

Background Data currently available on non-fatal road injuries are thought to be insufficiently complete and reliable. Linkage of hospital and crash data overcomes the limitations associated with relying on crash or hospital data alone and has been recognised by road safety agencies as integral to future reporting. Aims This Austroads funded proje...

Robust data on people with disability are needed, and we support the recent call by Fortune and colleagues for development of a consistent national disability identifier that would help harness the potential of the National Disability Data Asset to monitor health inequities and social determinants of health. Development of such an indicator would o...

Background: Studies show widespread widening of socioeconomic and health inequalities. Comprehensive primary health care has a focus on equity and to enact this requires more data on drivers of the increase in inequities. Hence, we examined trends in the distribution of income, wealth, employment and health in Australia. Methods: We analysed dat...
