Introduction
My research focuses on creating sustainable, advanced urban transportation systems and communities. It involves analyzing individual travel behavior, modeling travel demand, and studying transportation-land use interactions. Freight and logistics activities are my primary interests.

Traffic congestion has imposed considerable economic expenses and environmental challenges on metropolitan areas. Consequently, cities have implemented Travel Demand Management (TDM) strategies to mitigate this issue during peak hours. Although studies have investigated how individuals make decisions during commuting in response to TDM incentives,...
Article
Intermodal travel is considered an effective method for achieving sustainable urban transportation. Understanding the factors influencing intermodal travel is crucial. Due to the relatively small proportion of intermodal trips within cities, datasets are significantly imbalanced, leading to poor performance of traditional logit models. In this pape...

Customized bus services (CBS) lines have been increasingly added in cities to better serve diversified travel needs. The notable variations in the built environment across the downtown and suburbs could result in wide differences in local customers' behaviors and preferences. The allocation of CBS stops thus needs to be considered separately in urb...
Article
Heavy-duty trucks have caused growing concern due to their negative environmental externalities. Existing studies have not adequately examined the heterogeneity in the spatial distribution of heavy-duty truck activities and identified major influencing factors behind the patterns, thus making effective traffic management difficult. This study extra...

Understanding the characteristics of passenger vehicle use is the prerequisite for effective urban management. However, it has been challenging in the existing literature due to the lack of continuously observed data on passenger vehicle use. Thanks to the advances in data collection and processing techniques, multi-day vehicle trajectory data gene...

With the burgeoning activities of E-commerce, the demand for electric logistic vehicles (ELVs) have been growing tremendously in megacities. However, the empirical evidence on how electric logistic demand is distributed across neighborhoods and correlated to spatially varying factors is limited. This study used the activity data of ELVs to analyze...

Traffic congestion has caused great concern among policymakers in large cities around the world. In contrast with constantly increasing transport supply, individual-based active travel demand management (ATDM) has been proposed as a more efficient policy alternative for combating congestion. However, how individuals make routing choices during comm...

Many city bus systems have gone through crises-dropping ridership and unsustained finance-across countries over the past decades. Previous studies revealed that despite the soaring public subsidies on traditional bus services, the quality of bus services was unimproved and the responses to demand changes remained sluggish. A large number of bus use...

This study analyzed transit deserts in Seattle using spatial principal component analysis. We ranked factors related to transit deserts and incorporated the spatial and temporal features of transit services. We found that transit access was the main factor that contributed to transit deserts. We identified clustered and scattered transit deserts. T...
Conference Paper

Social equity can be potentially improved by well-designed transit systems. However, dissatisfaction with transit is commonly reported within an area due to an intricate process to allocate the resources. Thus, it is critical to quantify transit equity for vulnerable groups. Based on the prior literature, this study includes 683 affordable housing...

Bus microcirculation system is an effective solution to “the last mile” problem of urban traffic. Under the current background of open communities’ construction, an integrated design of site and network is significant for passengers, enterprises and society. A model was provided to design sites and network of bus microcirculation system in open com...

Comparing the impact of different ways to divide Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZs) on traffic assignments can provide a general method, which helps to find a better solution with less costs, for urban planning process and transportation policymaking. Previous literature has mostly studied foreign metropolitans but overlooks smaller-scaled regions. Thus...
