Introduction

Pristimantis Structural and determinate factors for the composition of assemblages of species are diverse. Two theories attempt to explain the pattern of species composition in assemblies using different approaches—i.e., Niche Theory and Neutral Theory. Anurans have complex responses to habitat structure. Species of Pristimantis are good indicators...

We describe a new species of Pristimantis from lowland Amazonia of the Region Loreto, northern Peru. The new species is mainly characterized by its size (SVL 26.5 mm in male, 33.0 mm in female), shagreen dorsal skin, absence of dorsolateral folds, slightly areolate venter, presence of discoidal fold, presence of tympanic membrane including tympanic...

Identifying conservation priorities in ecological hotspots such as the Amazon Basin requires an understanding of beta diversity and endemism patterns. This study explores amphibian and reptile diversity across 32 Amazonian ecoregions, analysing their relationships with habitat heterogeneity and anthropogenic impacts. Using spatial data for 1839 spe...

Understanding spatial variability in ecological and evolutionary patterns is key to Amazonian biodiversity conservation. This study examined taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity across amphibians and reptiles, assessing the influence of elevation, interrelationships among metrics, and distribution across five Amazon Basin ecoregions, e...

p> Background. Vanilla is a crop of great economic and sociocultural importance, due to the relevance of compounds such as vanillin, which is used in the production of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products. Low inflorescence production is a frequent problem that is related to adverse environmental factors in cultivation systems, affecting the...

We report the capture of several new species of longhorn beetles from Peruvian fauna using synthetic pheromones, syn-2,3-hexanediol, fuscumol, and fuscumol acetate. A total of seven species of longhorn beetles from the subfamily Lamiinae were captured. These longhorn beetles were distributed into the following tribes and species: Acanthocinini (Hyl...

The effort to uncover herpetofauna within the zone of influence of the Sierra del Divisor National Park has been focused on the northern reaches. The Abujao basin represents the Sierra del Divisor region well in an understudied area central to the Peruvian Amazon. We found 108 species of amphibians and squamate reptiles. Seven records extend ranges...

Using Moringa oleifera (Moringa oleifera Lam.) seed as a biocoagulant to enhance surface water's physical and chemical quality was the goal of this study. The methodology applied for the generation of experimental data was through the use of the Jar Test equipment, in a dose of 40 mg/L to 140 mg/L, then a fast mixing of 100 rpm for 1 minute and a s...

Chapter
This chapter focuses on the analysis of resemblance metaphors and metonymies that operate in the ethnozoological lexicon of the Amazonian language Aguaruna. Our corpus is basically composed of binomials (noun-noun compounds) in which these semantic mechanisms are representative and useful for naming sub-generic species. In our analysis, we have mos...

In this work, the vertical stratification in Pristimantis species was studied in a remanescent forest dominated by bamboo in the southwest region of the Amazon. The field work was carried out between December 2012 and May 2013. The differences in height of the perch were analyzed interspecifically, and intraspecific in relation to the structure of...

We report the first record of the genus Microcaecilia in Peru from lowland, primary rainforest in Loreto, adding to its previously known geographic range from northwestern Colombia; Ecuador through southern Venezuela to the Guianas and São Paulo, Brazil. Two individuals of a species of this genus of small caecilians were found in deep leaf litter a...
