Introduction
Hello Everyone,
My name is Jay, I am currently a sophmore at the University of North Texas. I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree of Science in Biochemistry. I am also attaining a minor in Biology and a minor in Chemical Technicians, which I have completed this semester.
My hopes for the future include becoming a physician scientist and working in either reconstructive plastics or trauma for pediatrics to develop new surgical equipment.
Other Interests Include:
Building Computers and Programming,
World Civilizations, and the Correlation between Buddhist Philosophy and the Scientific Method of Empirical Observation.

Multiple-herbicide resistance (MHR) in black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides ) and annual ryegrass (Lolium rigidum) is a global problem leading to a loss of chemical weed control in cereal crops. Although poorly understood, in common with multiple-drug resistance (MDR) in tumors, MHR is associated with an enhanced ability to detoxify xenobiotics. In...
The purpose of this experimentation is to examine polybrominated and polychlorinated compounds with atomic mass spectroscopy and gas chromatography. First, gas chromatography is used to provide the retention times of various analyte components. Next, the relative intensities of the multiple peaks in the mass spectra plots of ion intensity/relative...

The purpose of this experimentation is to analyze the concentration of ethyl alcohol, a volatile substance contained within a beverage solution. The concentration will be determined using a GC system with a headspace autoinjector and flame ionization detector. By removing the headspace (gaseous analyte about sample matrix) of the beverage solution...
The purpose of this experiment is to analyze compounds containing aldehyde and ketone functional groups with a Fourier-transform Infrared Spectrometer. Identification of the appropriate functional groups present in each compound is determined by observation of their respective infrared spectra. Familiarization of attenuated total reflectance as a s...
The purpose of this experiment is to promote familiarization of fluorescence spectroscopy by determining the concentration of fluorescein in commercial Prestone© Antifreeze. Concentration is provided by obtaining excitation emission spectra with a fluorospectrometer and constructing a working calibration curve for fluorescein. The concentration of...
Glutathione S-transferases conjugate the glutathione tripeptide γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine (GSH) to a substantial array of substrates. GSTs are a venerable and ubiquitous multi-gene isozyme family encoding ~25-29 kD proteins that are capable of both homodimerization and heterodimerization in vivo. In plants and other organisms Glutathione S-trans...
A derivative of the cytoplasmic 7SL RNA, a major component of the signal recognition particle the Alu gene insertion is a retro-transposable genetic element without expression that resides as a fixed locus, PV92 located on chromosome number 16. The element is a short stretch of DNA that was originally characterized by Arthrobacter luteus (Alu) rest...

Hello everyone,
My name is Jay and I am a BS in Biochemistry at North Texas. I just began an advanced X-Ray Analysis course with minimal XRD experience.
I need help coming up with a very doable and fun independent project for extra credit. It can be computation or experimental. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. :)
Providing students with large quantities of Daphnia magna for independent research.

The goal of this project is to research the applicability of multiple disulfide containing organic compounds in respect to hydrogen disulfide scavenging. The purpose of researching the potential scavenging compounds is for the prevention of corrosion types commonly encountered in the petroleum industry.
The goal of this project is to analyze WE43, a rare-earth alloy of Magnesium for its' biocompatbility in regard to in-vitro corrosive properties.
