Introduction
My research is focused at studying biotic interactions and ecosystem functions and services in either natural or managed ecosystems. I'm especially interested at predicting biodiversity across a broad range of ecological scales, and combining different and large data sources and advanced statistical methodologies.

Project
The main objective of this project is to evaluate how multiple anthropogenic pressures affect the provision of pollination services by wild pollinators in insular managed landscapes, focusing on the spatio-temporal variation in the service through changes in diversity and connectivity, the evaluation of synergies, and the functional consequences in wild plants and crops. For that, we will use an integrative approach that understands the pollination service as influenced by the whole landscape and its components, to fill the main gaps still existing in the literature and to provide clear indications for a sustainable crop production and for the conservation of biodiversity.
Project
Demonstrating the link between biotic interactions and environmental change or succession in response to disturbances would represent a fundamental advance in our understanding of how plant communities could be resilient in the near future. Here we will aim to fill the gap in our knowledge by studying competence, neutralism or facilitation in forests of the Iberian Peninsula, a region with broad environmental conditions and highly sensitive to current climate warming, and potentially susceptible to derive positive-to-negative gradients of biotic interactions.

We are pleased to announce that the 1st Iberian Meeting on Agroecological Research (ibagreco) – "Establishing the ecological basis for sustainable agriculture" is being organized and will be hosted by the University of Évora on 22-23 November 2018 in Évora, Portugal. ibagreco is intended to bring together research aimed to understand the ecological basis for sustainable agriculture and is conceived to offer researchers a framework to share their cutting-edge research on Iberian agroecosystems. However, research from all over the world will be also very welcome. Join us!
