In Anthropocene era, coral species are among the most threatened marine fauna. Specific scleractinians coral species had been added for the first time in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2007. Cuatro Islas in Leyte had been monitored since 1994 while San Francisco Island in Camotes Islands, Cebu was surveyed in February 2019. Both group o...
Coral reefs of the Tres Marias Islets provide habitat for diverse marine organisms and significantly contribute to the economic activities in Northwest Leyte, Eastern Philippines. Unfortunately, no comprehensive and detailed study was conducted to determine the status of the hard coral and the reef-associated benthic resources in Tres Marias Islets...
Decentralized management of marine resources by local governments yields an enhanced opportunity to protect, restore, and create sustainable marine biodiversity in the provision of ecosystem services. However, due to the complexities associated with designing a level of protection for a specific marine resource, local stakeholders may find the proc...

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are established as a management strategy to protect plants and animals in the marine environment, particularly, coral reefs. Coral reefs primary inhabitants are composed of benthic macroinvertebrates which does not only provide huge economic impact to the community but act as bioindicators of reef health. In Tinabilan...
Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) were recognized as an effective strategy to improve the hard coral cover through the reduction of anthropogenic stressors and pressures. With the absence of baseline data on the status of the coral reef community structure in Tinabilan Fish and Shell Sanctuary, the enforced protection and management effectiveness could...
The coastline of Palompon, Leyte has endowed with rich seagrass abundance and diversity which supports the well-established Siganid industry. Baseline information on the cover and species composition were gathered using the transect-quadrat method. Results showed that there were four (4) species of seagrasses identified in the coastal area of Tinab...
A scientific research poster on the reporting of the presence of scleractinian coral species both listed in the Zoological Society of London's Evolutionary Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) Species List and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species in Selected Areas of Camotes Sea, Central Philip...

A poster presented in the 16th National Symposium on Marine Science organized by the Philippine Association on Marine Science on July 23, 2021. This poster is about the status of seagrasses in a coastal barangay in Palompon, Leyte, Philippines.
In this modern era, tuberculosis remains one of the leading causes of mortality among humans, especially in the Philippines. Lack of awareness and proper information dissemination are considerable reasons why cases are exponentially increasing despite the available treatment and advanced technology. With this, the tuberculosis awareness program was...
Shallow-water populations might be at particular risk with the predicted drastic global water temperature rise, which could cause high mortality rates among organisms at their early life stages, thereby limiting their distribution, growth, and survival. Recent studies about the thermal tolerance of the embryonic and larval stages of collector urchi...
