An interpretation of non-relativistic quantum mechanics is presented in the spirit of Erwin Madelung's hydrodynamic formulation of QM and Louis de Broglie's and David Bohm's pilot wave models. The aims of the approach are as follows: 1) to have a clear ontology for QM, 2) to describe QM in a causal way, 3) to get rid of the wave-particle dualism in...

We study numerically the behavior of a single quantized vortex in a rotating cylinder. We study in particular the spiraling motion of a vortex in a cylinder that is parallel to the rotation axis. We determine the asymptotic form of the vortex and its axial and azimuthal propagation velocities under a wide range of parameters. We also study the stab...

This study uses a five-year series of half-hourly eddy covariance (EC) and soil temperature measurements to estimate the time development of Gross Primary Production (GPP) of a boreal Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest, and compares this estimate with results from three versions of a mechanistic canopy photosynthesis model at different tempora...

The trace gas and aerosol concentrations as well as meteorological data (radiation, temperature, humidity) measured in Hyytiälä and Värriö, southern and northern Finland, respectively, were investigated with air mass analyses. The back trajectories of air masses arriving to the sites on the 925-hPa pressure level were calculated 96 hours backwards...

We discuss the general properties of periodic vortex arrangements in rotating superfluids. The different possible structures are classified according to the symmetry space-groups and the circulation number. We calculate numerically several types of vortex structures in superfluid 3He-A. The calculations are done in the Ginzburg-Landau region, but t...
Article
Four alternative but topologically different structures of vorticity exist in rotating He-3-A. As a function of magnetic field (H) and rotation velocity (Omega), we identify with NMR the type of vortex which is nucleated during cooling from the normal to the superfluid phase. The measurements are compared to the calculated equilibrium phase diagram...
Article
A new state of rotating superfluid 3A has been found. Instead of quantized vortex lines, it consists of a continuous vortex sheet. The sheet has as a backbone a topologically stable domain wall called soliton, to which the vorticity is bound. The sheet folds to equidistant layers that fill uniformly the rotating container. The new state can easily...
Article
The structure of continuous vortices in 3He-A is calculated numerically without applying any constraints on the variation of the anisotropy vectors. The transition taking place in the vortex as a function of the magnetic field is investigated. Our results justify earlier qualitative calculations but there are differences in details.
