Introduction
Currently working on two major projects: 1) Talent transfer and all-round development following the results of a systematic analysis of similarities and differences between sports. Diversity in sports-practice based on underlying components of task and individual constraints. 2) Growth & Maturation; assessment of biological-age and the consequences for practice.

Sports are characterized by unique rules, environments, and tasks, but also share fundamental similarities with each other sport. Such between-sports parallels can be vital for optimizing talent transfer processes. This study aimed to explore similarities between sports to provide an objective basis for clustering sports into families by means of m...

Abstract: Well-designed talent programs in sports with a focus on talent identification, orientation, development, and transfer support the engagement of young individuals and the pursuit of elite performance. To facilitate these processes, an analysis of task, environmental and individual characteristics per sport is much needed. The aims of this...

Keeping children active during adolescence is proving to be a challenge. This has implications for sports participation and the pathway to elite sport. A better connection between schools and sports clubs can prevent sports dropouts and increase talent pools. However, detecting potential at the age of 13 is biased by maturity status. Using only the...

Sportprofessionals staan voor de uitdaging om optimale fysieke en motorische o...

Chapter
In this chapter, we argue that talent transfer is not only possible as a classical product orientated approach, but also as a process approach. To successfully transfer from one sport to another, it is important to determine the underlying performance requirements. The ‘sport identity’ makes it clear that a systematic analysis of sporting constrain...

Background: Equations predicting age at peak height velocity (APHV) are often used to assess somatic maturity and to adjust training load accordingly. However, information on the intra-individual accuracy of APHV in youth athletes is not available. Aim: The purpose of this study is to assess the accuracy of predication equations for the estimation...

Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate similarities and differences for 18 sports towards canoe/kayak in order to identify donorsport and/or multisports, based upon a systematic analysis of the task constraints per sport that are assumed to be either crucial or less important from the coaches’ viewpoint. Design Descriptive survey analy...

The main and interactive effect of biological maturity and relative age upon physical performance in adolescent male soccer players was considered. Consistent with previous research, it was hypothesised that participants of greater maturity or born earlier in the selection year would perform better in terms of physical performance tests. This cross...

A perceptuo-motor skills assessment was developed to better estimate the potential of youth table tennis players (8-10 years). Sport-specific training experience might influence the outcomes of this assessment and hinder a fair interpretation. Consequently, the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the training experience (i.e....

The aim of the study was to explore whether a relationship exists between balance performance and basic soccer skills. To this end, participants (N=263) divided over three age-groups, 11-12 (GR1), 13-14 (GR2), 15-16 (GR3) years of age, performed three balance tasks (i.e., walking forward (WF) and walking backward (WB) on a balance beam, and single...
