Vacuum filtration is widely used in dehydration of the coal flotoconcentrate. Inspite of the application of flocculants, it gives post-filtration suspension humidity of ca. 27-28%. Suspension humidity may be significantly decreased as a result of the centrifugal filtration. Investigated flotoconcentrate suspension contained ca. 31% of solids and it...
Article
Results of experiments dealing with laboratory-scale periodical centrifugal filtration of sludge originated from one of coal mines, currently dewatering in filtration press, is presented in the paper. This sludge is characterized by a quite high, i.e. greater than 20% mass concentration of solid phase being the coal in 81.3%. Because a final moistu...
Article
The work presents a new experimental formula to describe effective thermal conductivity of nanofluids. It depends on volume fraction of nanoparticles and bulk temperature. The formula could be used when simulating nanofluids behavior by CFD.
Article
A review with 52 refs, covering the principle of operation, possible application, and advantages and disadvantages of the reverse flow process.
Article
The work presents a mathematical model of pressure filtration, which is compared to the experimental results. The agreement of the numerical results with experimental data is very good.
Article
The work investigates the possibility to speed up cycling steady state achievement in RFR with the use of interstage injection of a cold gas. It was proved that a delay in starting time of the injection can make the start up time about 50% shorter.
Article
The work presents investigations of a new double bed reactor with circulating reaction zone (DBCR). Introduction of a cycling change in position of a feed poin results in reaching cycling steady state (CSS) of the reactor and avoiding of a discharge of nonreacted gases into the athmosphere. Which was taking place when a standard reverse flow reacto...
Article
The work presents simulated temperature gradient's distributions along the flow-reversal (RFR) reactor for different modes of operation. The purpose of this work is to find out which part of the catalytic bed is the most vulnerable and what means should be taken to protect it.
Chapter
A model of a reverse flow reactor with an injection of cold feed was investigated. The injection caused a decrease in maximum temperature and conversion. However the decrease in maximum temperature of catalyst bed is lower than in minimum conversion especially for small cycling time.
Conference Paper
The equations of the type Eu = CReA are presented in the paper for selected natural beds used in biofiltration, including fractionated oak-beech bark, peat, compost, wheaten straw, fractionated and non-fractionated pine bark, tree chips, heather and processed material from mushroom production. Given equations allow to determine pressure drop for co...
Article
A model of a reverse flow reactor with an injection of cold feed was investigated, It was found that when the maximum temperature was restricted, an application of cold gas injection gives way to a safe operation. The exact place of this injection depends on the value of the temperature limit.
Article
The influence of forced temperature oscillation upon the operation of a reverse flow reactor was investigated. It was found that oscillations of inlet temperature did not change the length of start up time and gave access too much wider range of pseudo steady state operation parameters.
Article
The paper presents the results of the computations of vertical pneumatic conveying characteristics (ΔP/l)œr=f(Ug) in the particle acceleration region. Numerical computations (ΔP/l)œr=f(Ug) were performed on the basis of particle uniform flow model for the different initial value of solid velocity definitions. The comparison of the characteristics o...
Article
A new design of a reverse-flow reactor (RFR) is investigated. It consists of two seperated catalytic beds inside the reactor. There is an industrial problem of nonreacted gases accumulated in dead zones of RFR. When a change in direction of the flow is performed this gas is descharged into atmosphere. The proposed design of the reactor may serve as...
Article
A model of a reverse flow reactor with an injection of cold feed was investigated. The injection caused a decrease in maximum temperature and conversion. However the decrease in maximum temperature of catalyst bed is lower than in minimum conversion.
Article
The work presents some possibilities to use dynamic behaviour of a catalytic reactor for rate constants determination. The models which give stop-effect behaviour were considered. It was shown that for the reactions in which a pseudo-steady state approximation is possible there is an easy way to calculate equilibrium constant for the pseudo-steady...
Article
A mathematical model of a flow-reversal reactor is presented and analysed. The methanol synthesis is taken as an example. The range of parameters is established for the pseudo-steady-state operation of the reactor. An approximate method for the prediction of flow-reversal reactor parameters is proposed. A maximum cycling time is found to be the mos...
Article
Several basic models presented in the literature for reactions with a stop-effect yield virtually the same results under steady state conditions. Such a situation takes place for dehydration of alcohols and the deamination of primary amines. It has been proved that a simple transient behaviour after a stop in the supply of the reactant will not mak...
Article
The effect of forced concn. oscillations on a catalytic reaction with stop-effect was studied based on 2 different adsorption-desorption models. Both models predict mean reaction rates which can be more than twice as high as the max. rate under optimum steady-state conditions. An anal. soln. is presented to describe the mean performance as a functi...
Article
The transient behaviour of a heterogeneous catalytic process described by a two-site adsorption-desorption model was studied. After a stop on the supply of reactant, a temporarily increase in the production rate is predicted. Analytical solutions to describe the instantaneous reaction rate in a differential reactor are presented. The theoretical re...
Article
A numerical study was performed on the operation of a tubular, fixed-bed, catalytic reactor, in which a generalized two-step heterogeneous reaction is occurring, with square-wave oscillations in the composition of the feed. The parameters which were investigated included the reaction rate constants, the frequency, amplitude and symmetry of the osci...
Article
A generalized treatment is presented for several basic types of reaction conducted in a fixed-bed plug-flow reactor (FBPFR) under conditions of forced periodic oscillations of feed compositions. The model reactions are adsorption-desorption types with Eley-Rideal surface kinetics. For nonlinear kinetics, there is a significant improvement in the ti...
Article
The authors compare the predictions of a dynamic reactor model which accounts for the transient behavior of the catalyst surface (model I) with a model using steady-state kinetics (model II). Both models are based on a two-step, adsorption-desorption reaction sequence with Eley-Rideal kinetics. Model I represents real-system behavior more closely u...
Article
Square-wave concentration forcing experiments have been performed for the ammonia synthesis reaction in an isothermal, fixed-bed, plug-flow reactor at a temperature and pressure approaching industrial conditions (703 K, 4.14Mpa). Using the optimal steady-state (OSS) production rate as a base for comparison, we have found that cycling between pure r...
Article
An analysis of reaction rate enhancements by forced concentration oscillations of reactants for an adsorption/desorption type model with Eley-Rideal surface kinetics, is presented. Under cycling conditions in which the cycle time approaches zero, there is considerable rate enhancement relative to optimal steady state for nonlinear kinetics but no i...
Article
The paper presents an investigation of yield improvement in a tubular reactor with a fixed catalytic bed. It was found that yield improvement during forced concentration oscillations is observed only for multistep reactions with nonlinear kinetics. The optimal way of performing concentration oscillations was recommended and conditions when they are...
