Discrete event simulation (DES) is a method for digitally replicating the behavior and performance of real-world processes, systems, and facilities. DES is widely applied in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and military domains. In some cases, DES method is insufficient. On one hand, the simulation must be disassembled into subsystems and then...

Hospitals and other healthcare settings use various simulation methods to improve their operations, management, and training. The COVID-19 pandemic, with the resulting necessity for rapid and remote assessment, has highlighted the critical role of modeling and simulation in healthcare, particularly distributed simulation (DS). DS enables integratio...

Lean implementation plays a major role in optimizing productivity and reducing waste. Applying the adequate integration of Lean Techniques (LT) can ensure a higher profitable benefit. Many companies face difficulties in choosing the LT that best suit their situations to reach their objectives. In this study, we propose the simulation of specific mo...

MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) is considered a valuable and effective approach not only in engineering domains, although it appears to bring a potential assistance to artistic visions and initiatives. The cross-domain capitalization is the key to further innovation and advances in technology. This paper describes an MBSE approach, applied t...

Nowadays, industries are implementing heterogeneous systems from different domains, backgrounds, and operating systems. Manufacturing systems are becoming more and more complex, which forces engineers to manage the complexity in several aspects. Technical complexities bring interoperability, risk management, and hazards issues that must be taken in...

In order to control manufacturing systems, managers need risk and performance evaluation methods and simulation tools. However, these simulation techniques must evolve towards being multiperformance, multiactor, and multisimulation tools, and this requires interoperability between those distributed components. This paper presents an integrated plat...
Thesis
Aside from the human and managerial skills necessary to propel any business, the right Lean deployment can play a big role in reducing waste and maximizing efficiency. Capturing these benefits is highly dependent on adequate Lean techniques integration. One of the major hurdles companies face is the difficulty to choose the Lean tools that best fit...

In many domains, Discrete-Event Simulations (DES) are usually used to reproduce the behavior of a certain system or process, where events are processed one after another in chronological and sequential order. Classical DES will no longer be a possible solution for Complex and Large-scale systems, System of Systems (SoS), and Performance Evaluation...

Many companies from different sectors (automotive, aeronautic, food and pharmacy) have grasped the contribution of Lean manufacturing to increase the global performance through stock turnover increase, reduce the lead times and increase the defect free products. In spite of several existing case studies investigating the Lean approach benefits, the...

Aside from the human and managerial skills necessary to propel any business, the right Lean deployment can play a big role in reducing waste and maximizing efficiency. Capturing these benefits is highly dependent on adequate Lean techniques integration. Companies shifting towards Lean conversion have tried one of many Lean Manufacturing optimizatio...
Conference Paper

Leading Manufacturers are increasingly adopting Lean in their manufacturing systems. Lean tools and techniques are becoming essential to eliminate or minimize waste and non-value activities from the manufacturing process. However, Lean implementation requires an in-depth study of the company’s economic context in order to ensure financial and quali...

The goal of the developed framework is to generate an automated music arrangement for any melody with a harmonically correct result. Compared to other existing tools in the market, the developed framework has reduced the dissonance between the melody and the arrangement, which makes the final arrangement a good accompaniment to a melody performed either by a singer or an instrument.
