Introduction
Publishing a book on New York Cabaret in September 2018 put an end to my academic research project. I am now focusing on creation as a singer songwriter, and on the development of a course on American Culture and Society.

Through the example of the song «Body and Soul, » this paper examines how classical American popular songs are written, and specifically how meaning is built up through the coherent interaction of melody, harmony and rhythm with the lyrics.
