Conference Paper: Magma degassing and fragmentation during the 1918 Katla eruption
- Lancaster Environment CentreLancaster, Lancaster, United Kingdom
I study the degassing of subglacial volcanic systems in Iceland. When an eruption occurs under a glacier, what is the role of volatiles in determining how explosive the eruption will be? Can we use the amount of volatiles that are left to reconstruct how thick the glacier was when the volcano erupted? Read my papers to find out! So far I have been studying the rhyolitic central volcano Torfajokull. My next project will be investigating basalt at Katla.
