In school, the importance of motivation to promote achievement is well-recognized. Conceived as what moves people to act and pursue a goal, achievement motivation was studied in light of diverse theoretical approaches. However, these approaches provide distinct but complementary conceptions of achievement motivation, which may make the construct ha...

Individual differences in pain sensitivity and reactivity are well recognized but the underlying mechanisms are likely to be diverse. The phenomenon of stress-induced analgesia is well documented in animal research and individual variability in the stress response in humans may produce corresponding changes in pain. We assessed the magnitude of the...

Learning a skilled trade is an essential vector for social and economic development. In Quebec, the vocational education and training (VET) sector provides this apprenticeship at the end of which a qualification is issued by the Ministry of Education. Obtaining this qualification, however, represents a challenge for learners who have various profiles. Studies carried out in Quebec have described the individual and motivational characteristics of the students completing a VET program. However, less is known about the learning strategies employed by these students. Therefore, this doctoral research project aims to 1. Describe the learning strategies employed by students in vocational training. 2. Study the relationships between learning strategies, motivation and academic success of vocational students.
