Prior research on individual-level drivers of protest has primarily focused on legal protest. However, less is known about what makes people engage in unlawful protest activities. Building upon previous literature on the collective action dilemma, socialization on violent and high-risk social movements, and political psychology, we expect that ille...
Previous research has offered mixed results regarding whether federalism and other mechanisms of multilevel governance (MLG) present advantages or disadvantages for civil society and, in particular, impoverish ethnic minorities. Since self-determination is a key element of the political autonomy of Indigenous peoples (IPs), this paper explores unde...
This paper aims to assess whether the Colombian Constitutional Court has had a trans-formative approach to transitional justice in relation to conflict-related sexual violence. Building upon previous literature on feminist approaches to transitional justice, we carry out a content analysis of all 37 Autos related to conflict-related sexual violence...
Building upon previous literature on political behavior, contentious social movements, and political communication, this paper aims to identify which experiences of political participation are associated with illegal protest. Relying on a two-wave panel dataset from the US, we first provide an overview of the main types of political participatory b...
Evidence suggests that populist parties, especially but not exclusively of the radical right, are more supported by men and can be a threat to gender equality. However, systematic analyses are missing regarding the connection between individuals’ attitudes towards gender equality and populism. We examine this link using original panel data gathered...
The recognition of indigenous peoples’ rights in Southeast Asia is uneven. The scope of these rights is determined in no small part by the unequal resonance of indigenous movements throughout the region, which are in turn influenced by the diverse political settings in each country. Concurrently, during the last decade the region has witnessed impo...
Prior research has delved into the diverse effects that social media news consumption has over broader social media interaction patterns. From social ties curation, to ties filtering, blocking, and other behaviors, social media news consumption has been empirically deemed to influence the way citizens socialize in these virtual spaces. Drawing on a...
In a world of polarized societies and radical voices hogging the public digital sphere, this thematic issue aims at identifying the different strategies of old and new social movements in the extremes of the political debates by focusing on the interplay between polarization, uses of the internet, and social activism. In order to disentangle these...
In recent years, there has been an increased academic interest revolving around the beneficial or pernicious effects of ideological extremity and (uncivil) political discussion over democracy. For instance, citizens’ ideological predispositions and higher levels of political discussion have been linked with a more active and vibrant political life....
Prior research highlights substantial beneficial effects of political user-generated content (UGC) in society, such as diversifying political viewpoints, mobilizing the electorate, and fostering citizens’ civic engagement. However, important user asymmetries exist when creating political content. Gender, age, media uses, and skills gaps have been i...

This paper evaluates existing theories regarding women’s participation in top government positions by applying these theories to Asia through a qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). Thus, this paper aims to identify the conditions necessary and/or sufficient for women to break the political glass ceiling in Asia. Overall, the results show that po...
Previous studies have shown that displaced women suffer more sexual violence than other female populations in the world. In this article, it is analysed how this social problem is defined in Colombia and to what extent there is coherence between the causes identified and the preventive measures proposed to end it. Through N-Vivo software, we perfor...
This paper attempts to find paths to the recognition of indigenous peoples’ rights (IPR) and to identify the conditions that are necessary and/or sufficient for the recognition of these rights. A longitudinal comparative study of Southeast Asian minority rights regimes is carried out by means of a two-step fuzzy set analysis, combining structural c...
Indigenous children with disabilities (ICwD) have received little attention in academic research and development policies. However, they face discrimination at many levels, based on ethnicity, age, ability and gender and this often leads to serious human rights violations. The lack of data, both on the prevalence of disabilities among indigenous ch...
No obstante, e...
This paper analyses the different indigenous movements that have been active in Southeast Asia over the past 30 years. For that purpose, the concept of " resonance " is used, due to its versatility as a perspective for the study of social movements. The analysis is descriptive and longitudinal given that the resonance of indigenous mobilization is...
The aim of the paper is to describe the situation for legal recognition of Indigenous Peoples' rights by the state among the different countries of Southeast Asia. In order to do this, an index called IREDLI and based on Van Cott's multicultural model has been built and then applied to different territorial units of Southeast Asia. This new index a...

In order to demonstrate this, survey data from the Latin American Public Opinion Project’s (LAPOP) AmericasBarometer and interviews with legislators from the Parliamentary Elites in Latin America Proje...

Hi everybody,
One of the predictors (A) of my dependent variable clearly follows a quadratic function (A and A squared both significant). I want to see how this predictor interacts with another one (B, also significant). Yet, I do not know how to introduce it into the OLS regression model. So, if in a regular interaction I will introduce the interaction term as A*B, what should I do this time? A * A squared * B?? is it possible at all to test it?
Some research topics are highly feminized, since most researchers are women. Femminist theorists have argued that this occurs because most men are not interested in 'gender issues' such as gender based violence. Others have argued that values matter more than numbers: what makes a difference is not the female/male ratio among researchers but if they approach the topic from a femminist research perspective or not. Anyhow, according to previous studies would it be positive to have more gender balanced research fields? and if so, why would we need more male researchers investigating gender issues?
