Background/Purpose:
Rituximab targets CD20-positive B cells and is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). B cell depletion may result in hypogammaglobulinemia. Hypogammaglobulinemia is a risk factor for infections. We sought to evaluate the safety of long-term exposure to Rituximab in patients with RA.
Methods: Serum levels of IgG (g/l) and c...
Thoracic imaging findings in patients with primary humoral immunodeficiency
Background/Purpose:
Rituximab targets CD20-bearing B cells and is used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) is a primary immune deficiency syndrome with immune dysregulation, hypogammaglobulinemia, and recurrent infections. It was hypothesised that iatrogenic B cell depletion could produce a CVID-like phenoty...
Background/Purpose: The pathophysiology of primary Sjögren’s disease involves the interaction of genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. With limited treatment options for severe disease, a detailed understanding the proteomic architecture is necessary. Herein, we investigated the associations between circulating proteins on primary Sjögren...
Background
There is little evidence available that specifically assesses morbidity and mortality in early RA. Most evidence is derived from people with well-established disease and a substantial burden of comorbidities [*].
Objectives
To identify the risk of serious infections (SI) admissions and SI mortality according to the initial treatment str...
Background
Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large vessel vasculitis with a predominance affecting elderly Caucasian patients and is a medical emergency requiring prompt diagnosis and intervention. The GCA probability score (GCAPS) is a clinical tool developed to assist GCA assessment in the early stage of disease utilised in fast-track clinics.

Background
JAK inhibitors (JAKi) represent the latest development in the tackle to treat multiple inflammatory conditions. There is limited real-world data on their use. In 2022, the EMA Pharmacovigilance committee suggested that JAKi should only be used if alternative therapies are not available in patients over 65 years, smokers or those with car...
Background
Vaccination against pneumococcus reduces the risk of infective events, hospitalisation, and death in individual with inflammatory arthritis, particular in those on immunomodulating therapy who are at risk of worse outcomes from pneumococcal disease
Objectives
To Investigate the serological protection against pneumococcal serovars over t...
Background/Aims
To identify the risk of serious infections (SI) according to initial treatment strategy, using conventional synthetic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (csDMARD) and corticosteroids, in patients recruited to the National Early Inflammatory Arthritis Audit (NEIAA).
Methods
An observational cohort study design was used. The popu...

Serious infections hospital admissions and mortality in patients with early inflammatory arthritis: Results from a large UK cohort ID: 1561641 No: 0415 • Initial DMARD therapy (by 3 months) was known for 19,572 patients, of whom 11,966 were on methotrexate/MTX based strategies (mono or combo), 5059 on csDMARD combination strategies (other than MTX)...
Background/Purpose: The 2021 EULAR guidelines on self-management have made recommendations (rec) to aid with the implementation of self-management strategies in inflammatory arthritis (IA) (1). Their aim is to support patients and encourage a patientcentred care approach which can improve both patient experience and outcomes in IA. Self-management...

Novel human NFKB2 protein mutation in two unrelated patients with common variable immunodeficiency
Thursday, 6 December, 2018
What is common variable immunodeficiency?
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is one of the mos...
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), one of the most common primary immunodeficiency disorders, is heterogeneous, clinically, immunologically and genetically 1. Hypogammaglobulinaemia, recurrent infections, anterior pituitary hormonal deficiency and alopecia areata were associated with mutations in the Nuclear factor kappa-B subunit 2 (NFKB2) g...
The effect of sodium salicylate in liver upon high saturated fat diet
Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is increasingly being prescribed for prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic diseases. Despite the fact that its therapeutic use is considered to be safe, it can be complicated by major hemorrhage and, in contrast to unfractionated heparin, it can only partially be neutralized by protamine. Recent reports of...

Hi, I am not familiar with R and I would like to use it only for the following task. Can somebody indicate an easy tutorial or kindly advise on how to specifically generate a repeated measurements graph with R?
I tried isolating monocytes from human PBMCs using positive selection (CD14 positive magnetic beads). When I stained my isolated cells to confirm with flow cytometry, I got a big proportion of CD15-bright CD14dim cells suggesting granulocyte isolation as well. Haven't stained for live/dead cells. The markers I used for staining were CD14, CD15 (to exclude granulocytes) and CD45 (for leukocytes), expecting to get a big population of CD14(+) CD45 (+) CD15 (-) cells.
