Introduction
Imane Akkari (PhD in chemistry), a member of Materials Technology and Process Engineering Laboratory (LTMGP). Our basic interest is the treatment of water and wastewater by different processes.
We are currently working on the valorization of biomass by synthesizing and characterizing adsorbents of organic and inorganic contaminants in water.

Basic Red 46 (BR 46) is an azo dye with hazardous properties that find extensive applications across several sectors. As a result of industrial activities, the release of wastewater tainted with dyes leads to significant water contamination, causing various health issues and detrimental ecological repercussions. Therefore, wastewater treatment is c...
Constant pollution from a wide range of human activities has a negative impact on the quantity and quality of the planet’s water resources. On the other hand, agro-food waste can impact climate change and other forms of life, in addition to having social, economic, and environmental consequences. However, as a result of their inherent physicochemic...
For the adsorptive removal of poisonous Methylene Blue (MB) dye from aqueous media, dried myrtle leaves (PML), a local forestry waste, have been used as an affordable biosorbent. By analyzing the prepared biosorbent, it was possible to gain a clear understanding of its structure, functional groups, morphology, content, textural characteristics, and...
Purpose. A leading cause of water contamination is the widespread use of dyes, which are consumed in large amounts. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the potential of the Cactus paddle (CP) as an environmentally safe biosorbent for removing Basic Red 46 dye from aqueous media. Methodology. Various analytical tools, comprising XRF,...
The production and consumption of almonds occur in several locations worldwide, yielding immense volumes of trash, mainly skin. The current study evaluated the adsorptive manners of almond skin (AS) without modification for clearing Basic Red 46 dye (BR46) from water. XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDX, BET, and pHpzc are among the many analytical tools used to in...
Environmental requirements include sustainable materials with low investment costs and high performance for water treatment applications. The process of hydrothermal carbonization, on the other hand, offers a quick, economical, and green way to transform waste from natural resources into sustainable products. This study aims to produce a novel hydr...
Purpose. To depollute water contaminated by phenol using the adsorption process in a batch reactor with valorization of olive pomace for the preparation of activated carbon to be used as an adsorbent. Methodology. In this present work, study on the influence of four principal parameters on the adsorption yield during the treatment of polluted water...
Hydrothermal Carbonization presents an easy, inexpensive, and eco-friendly method to convert waste from natural resources into sustainable materials. This study used the Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC) approach to make hydrochar from locally available pomegranate peels. Several analytical tools were employed for its characterization, including ele...
There are several disposal and governance difficulties due to rapid bio-waste growth. Therefore, recycling and repurposing them for environmental purposes is garnering increasing attention. Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) followed by phosphoric acid activation was used in this investigation to synthesize a novel activated hydrochar (AHPP) from pom...
In the current work, a by-product of local olive pomace was valorized as an eco-friendly biosorbent to clear Basic Red 46 dye (BR46). The surface properties of the biosorbent were studied by various analytical implements such as XRF, XRD, FTIR, SEM, and pHpzc. High removal rates (> 90%) were attained at optimal parameters: 240 min of contact, pH of...
Absract
This study sought to reckon the efficacy of activated carbon from pomegranate peels (ACPP) in removing Basic Red 46 (BR46). The yielded sample was then characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDS, BET/BJH, pHpzc, and Boehm titration, showing an amorphous and mesoporous structure with a specific surface area of 102.068 m² g⁻¹, along with the sight o...
This article investigates experimentally and theoretically the adsorption of Basic Red 46 cationic dye (BR46) using activated carbon generated from cactus fruit peels (ACCFP). The prepared adsorbent was characterized by different analytical tools showing a good surface for the uptake of pollutants. A maximum batch adsorption capacity of 806.38 mg g...
The objective of this study was to determine the ability of sugar scum (SS), an industrial waste, as a novel biosorbent for the removal of Basic Blue 41 (BB 41) from aqueous solutions. The biosorbent was characterized by SEM/EDS, BET, FTIR, and pHpzc measurements, respectively. To reach a maximum adsorption capacity of 26.45 mg.g–1, impacting opera...
Herein, the synthesis, optical, and electrochemical characteristics of the spinel CuAl2O4 synthesized by co-precipitation are the focus of this research. As per to the X-ray diffraction (XRD), the obtained sample crystallizes in a cubic symmetry (SG: fd-3m) with a lattice constant of 8.0790 Å. The TEM image revealed spherical nanoparticles with an...
Because of their detrimental impacts on water quality and human health, dyes’ ubiquitous presence in the aquatic environment has aroused concerns over the last few decades concerning the methods to be employed to eradicate these emerging pollutants. In the ongoing study, raw cactus fruit peel (RCFP) is used as a low-cost, environmentally friendly s...
This work reports the use of raw pomegranate peel (RPP) as a low-cost biosorbent for the removal of Basic Red 46 (BR46) dye from aqueous solution. The XRD pattern indicates the amorphous nature of RPP. Hydroxyl (OH), carboxyl (COOH), and amine (NH2) are the main functional groups of the biosorbent. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows the h...
