No previous study has examined the large-scale distributional drivers of the entire global pool of 3,499 macrophyte species, despite the obvious importance of this for understanding the macro-ecology of these plants. To assess the hypothesis that natural rather than human-related transfer vectors act as the primary long-distance drivers of global m...

Digenea is a widely distributed genus in the Mexican Atlantic, and until a few years ago the only morphospecies D. simplex was recorded. Recent molecular research on this species from a locality in the Mexican Caribbean revealed the new species D. mexicana, whose morphological similarity with specimens from Gulf of Mexico suggests that its distribu...

Background. There are few studies of the effect of Sargassum sp. drift on coastal ecosystems. One of the most obvious changes is the increase in turbidity, however it has been only a few studies of how this is affecting seagrass communities and what changes they can induce in them that can indicate their impact in the ecosystem. Objectives. Determi...

For the Yucatan peninsula the latest study about the number of algal species shown data by states, of the Yucatan peninsula (Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatan), given to Quintana Roo 453 sp. (Pedroche y Sentíes 2003b) Campeche 211 sp (Mateo-Cid et al 2013), and to Yucatan a total of 285 sp (Ortegon-Aznar, et al 2010). For the Northern coast of Yucatan in 1993 a total of 214 sp (91 sp of Rhodophyta, 48 Phaophyceae and 75 Chlorophyta) was reported (Pedroche etal 1993); for 2003 a total of 283 sp, (120 Rhodophyta, 53 Phaeophyceae and 110 to Chlorophyta) have been reported (Pedroche y Sentíes 2003b). In 2010 a review of the algae reported to Yucatan was done, and gives a similar amount of algae reported before, (285 sp) but there is a difference between the composition of the algae, this is, 130 belong to Rhodophyta, 50 to Phaeophyceae and 105 to Chlorophyta (Ortegón-Aznar et al. 2010). At that time, and only for the North coast Yucatan, about 20 bibliographical sources were consulted (Ortegón-Aznar et al. 2010), now this number has increased by approximately the double, this gives us some idea of the increase of the diversity knowledge in terms of species richness. We think that an update is needed, but not just a review of publications, but a review of herbarium collections, and field work that input specimens in the herbariums, that are actually buried and have not been published. For this reason the objective of this project is to update and the increase the knowledge of the diversity of macroalgae to integrate the Phycological Flora of Yucatan in terms of species richness and add the new records that have not been published in other works before. Also an analisys of the geographical distribution of the benthic marine algae off the Northern Coast of the Yucatan peninsula was going to be perform.
