EO-ROFORMON aims to prototype a novel national forest monitoring and forecasting system based on the integration of active (radar) and passive (optical) Earth-Observation (EO) sensors calibrated with in situ data. The project focuses on retrieving indicators related to forest condition/status (e.g. defoliation) and degradation (e.g. logging activity, wind throws, fires). A second component of the project is focused on forest landscape modelling using the LANDIS-II. Through this component future trends are modelled starting from past and present forest condition, change drivers, management practices, and natural and anthropogenic disturbances.
