The biodiversity of headwater streams is gradually degrading as a result of urbanization. Although not always successful, ecosystem restoration can be useful in reversing such kind of degradation. In this study, chironomid pupal exuviae (Diptera) were be used as an indicator of riparian vegetation recovery success in the urban headwater streams of...

In eutrophic environments, aquatic weeds reproduce quickly and occupy large areas, preventing multiple uses of water resources. The use of the biomass of these plants in vermicomposting represents a sustainable alternative. The enrichment of macrophyte biomass during vermicomposting was tested using inorganic NPK solution (1.75% and 3.5%) and organ...

The niche of aquatic insect herbivores can be determined by the resource quality of leaf litter species. We compared the niche functional trait of aquatic insect herbivores between Magnolia ovata (riparian tree) and Saccharum officinarum (sugar cane) leaf litter processing. We hypothesized M. ovata and sugar cane leaf litter species would influence...

The functional traits of species respond to environmental gradientchanges, which, in turn, are responsible for the niche specialization ofspecies. We analyzed the niche specialization of several Tanypodinae taxa(predatory non-biting midge, 4th instar, n = 693) along the depth zones ofthe water in six shallow tropical reservoirs. We measured the bod...

We investigated the composition and specialisation of shredder chironomids in an invasive white ginger lily (Hedychium coronarium) and in native pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata) leaves. We assumed that the difference of the chemical compound in macrophyte leaves would influence the shredder specialisation. A colonisation experiment was performed o...
Article
The diet of shredder chironomid larvae depends on the local and temporal conditions of the food resources. We analysed the gut content of shredder chironomid larvae that colonised the leaf litter of three riparian species: Hedychium coronarium, Pteridium arachnoideum and Magnolia ovata. We hypothesised that the differences in the decomposition rate...

ABSTRACT Invasive macrophytes threaten freshwater ecosystem biodiversity. We analyzed the impact of the invasive white ginger lily (Hedychium coronarium J. König, Zingiberaceae) on aquatic insect assemblages living in the littoral zone of a tropical reservoir. We took aquatic insect samples in the littoral zone on four main vegetal profile banks: w...

Habitat discontinuity is one of the main causes of diversity reduction in lotic ecosystems. We tested the predictions of the Serial Discontinuity Concept (SDC) caused by small reservoirs on the functional diversity (FD) of Chironomidae assemblages in Neotropical Savanna streams. We obtained taxonomic information from segments upstream and downstrea...

Invasive plants are believed to shift the trait composition of aquatic insects dwelling in banks of lentic ecosystems. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the presence of the invasive white ginger lily (H. coronarium) and the functional trait indices of the aquatic insect assemblage in the littoral zone of a tropical reservoir. We s...

Invasive species are recognized as threats largely responsible for the loss of ecosystem functions. We investigated the influence of an invasive plant in the functional diversity (FD) of macroinvertebrate communities because they play important processes transferring energy to many food chains in freshwater systems. We carried out an experiment in...

Question
Hi everyone,
I've been interest to run an analyses which estimate umbrella index to macroinvertebrates dweeling streams and reservoir, with intention to compare with other conservation index.
Could someone tell if there is some kind o package in R to run this analyses? I founded a package justo to metanalysis.
Thank you!
Question
I'm interesting to known more about the new approach in description species. I've been search to some reference text with details that explain the new approach in taxonomy science.
Question
Recently I'm sending my manuscripts to freshwater journals to publishing. The English lenguage revision that I've made along the text, it looks likes not enough  understandible to the jounal reviewers. I think that a English reviewer with expertise in ecology of freshwater studies could help me.
