Developed and crafted in Madagascar, the Raseta pump is a novel hydraulic ram (hydram) pump using a springs system. It operates differently from other pumps by the exclusive use of water energy due to the water hammer phenomenon induced by the sudden stop of the water flow. The present study initiates the investigation of the environmental impacts...
One of the virtues of watercress is its ability to grow in wastewater. This work aims at experimentally studying the thermal behavior of a watercress planted roofed cubic cell. To do this, the temperatures of various components of the cell and the solar radiation received by this cell were measured in order to compare the watercress roof performanc...
In the ylang-ylang essential oil distillers in Anjouan Island, the used
energy is 100% firewood biomass. A large amount of this energy is
dissipated in the environment just in the combustion chamber itself. As
it turns out, the flue gases in this process take away the most part of it.
Thus, in a process of energy efficiency of stills, the present w...
Water pumps, which usually require fuels or power, are for carrying water from water sources to a facility, generally a household or a farm in the countryside. The present study consists of conducting an experimental validation of a mathematical model that was developed in a previous work for simulating the functioning of a new form of the hydrauli...
Due to their polluting characteristics, fossil fuels presently tend to be replaced by renewable energy resources. Anaerobic digestion is a recent technology for producing biofuels. As a biochemical method to produce biogas, it is more environmentally friendly than other processes and is almost non-polluting. The anaerobic co-digestion is an upgrade...

The first part of this work is focused on the determination of the Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) of a wide range of substrates that are largely available in Madagascar in order to determine the amount of methane (CH 4) that could be produced from their treatment (by monodigestion and by co-digestion) in an anaerobic reactor. Then a simple and...
In this article, a study of the energy performance of a distillation system of ylang-ylang essential oil on a wood fire was carried out. To do this, an analysis using the first and the second law of thermodynamics was made for each component of the distillation system. The analysis showed that the energy efficiency depends on the fraction of oil to...

A new type of hydraulic ram pump, called "Raseta pump", was invented, patented and crafted in Madagascar. The peculiarity of this hydram pump over conventional ones is that there is a spring in each of the waste and delivery valves. In addition, the usual air balloon is replaced by a balloon with 4 springs. Thus, this paper aims at theoretically st...

The present paper reviews the measures adopted to promote access to electricity in rural and remote areas of SSA. The main barriers to rural electrification in these developing countries are presente...
Production of syngas, or synthesis gas, from biomass wastes is an advantageous option for fuelling power generator. The most common components of a small-scale power generator system running with syngas are the boiler which gasifies the biomass, the cyclone which cools the output syngas and filters the solid particles, and the electricity generator...
