Introduction
Heribert Insam is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He also serves as speaker for the Research Center Environmental Research and Biotechnology (CERB) and deputy speaker of the Doctoral Programme BioApp (Biological Interactions - from Basics to Application). Focus of his research group 'Microbial Resource Management' are biomethanisation, soil and general environmental microbiology. H.I. is Chief Editor of Applied Soil Ecology.
