Organizations are increasingly being challenged to digitally transform themselves, in order to stay ahead of their competitors, while simultaneously ensuring increased protection of the natural environment so as to meet societal and customer demands. Installing more environmentally sustainable processes and production as well as the use of environmentally friendly products, especially green information technologies (Green IT) and green information systems (Green IS) are responses to these challenges. However, only few empirical studies have investigated general sustainability, specifically Green IT/IS initiatives and their outcomes. To address this gap, we design and undertake a multiple-phase, mixed-method study. Based on a thorough literature review, we first undertake a survey that evaluates an existing Green IT/IS adoption framework, while identifying participants for a following qualitative study.
