Introduction
Our laboratory focuses on crop epidemiology using modern approaches at the population and regional levels. Our epidemiology system relied on crop health as a major rational factor. Our team deals with field experiments, classical and molecular disease diagnosis, population genomics, big data, digital technology, and risk analyses applied mainly to pest management. We use scaling epidemiology for comprehensive mechanistic inferences. We also develop research in human disease epidemiology.

In the order Hemiptera, leafhoppers are the most diverse family, with more than 25,000 species distributed worldwide. Leafhoppers (Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae) are of phytosanitary importance, because they are efficient vectors of plant pathogens such as phytoplasmas and other bacteria and viruses that cause diseases in a wide range of plants. Ci...

p>Although the SARS-CoV-2 virus can survive in various environments for 28 days or more, and that the virus dispersion by microdroplets in the air can be a risk of contagion, there is no evidence that food carries it. However, the authorities have recommended measures in the handling of food, to avoid the possible spread of the disease through it o...

Global retrospective human/plant epidemiology analysis exhibits a reactive cognitive development influenced by casuistic phenomena. Epidemic outbreaks of XXI century evidenced regression of the population-based approach to risk prevention and erosion of Public Health model, successful between 1950-1970. After 19 pandemics and 200 historical outbrea...

p>Food and health are vital needs and legitimate human rights. Agriculture, exceeded by the Industrial Revolution and subsequent economic development has been fundamental to face the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 health contingency. Its essentiality, in contrast to most economic sectors’ shutdown, implied the uninterrupted agricultural production to guaran...

p>The emergence of COVID-19, a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, was first reported in December 2019. It then spread in pandemic proportions, creating a human health emergency that was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The airborne transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, mainly through droplets of saliva, has been highly effective, de...
